Due to my circumstances at work,i may go self emplyoed for a short period of time,
I think that setting a company in the short tem would not be viable,
So any drivers on here that use an umbrella company, have you had any problems? or are there any of them that you would like to praise
Any info would be greatly recieved
regards
tonyb
Umbrellas are ok, but not really practical for working outside the lorry, so I find a decent coat with a hood, or a baseball cap works a lot better
I know…
I’ve got a titleist brolly I use for golf its even lightning proof but wouldn’t like to find out but I highly recommend it .
I use James smith& son of new Oxford st for umbrellas and bates and co of jermyn st for hats.
It’s important a man dresses properly.
Bloody ponces, real men don’t use brollies!

i would go down this route, but i dont know how long i will be doing it for,i can get the work, just all not for one person,so i dont want to go paye,or have the expense of setting myself up ltd, then having to close it down again a few months later
Madisson Umbrella. thats who I used.
No issues with them at all. highly recommend
Don’t bother with one, you don’t need one.
Just write to the Inland Revenue and explain you are going self-employed.
Keep receipts for everything related to your work, and note the miles you travel to get there.
They will send you a Self-Assesment form to fill in at the end of the financial year (don’t worry, I can do mine in an afternoon and I only got CSE maths grade 2 at a retake), then they tell you how much tax you have to pay (you get plenty of notice and it’s in 2 instalments).
The good thing is all your work-related expenses (Driver CPC training, coffee, trucking mags, Yorkie bars etc) are allowable against your taxed income. Treat yourself to new safety boots, waterproofs, overnight gear, mobile phone etc. Just keep the receipts. You can claim for driving your car to your various places of work at 45p a mile. All this expenditure is effectively added to the allowance that you can earn before you pay income tax, so while it’s not free it can keep you out of the dreaded 40% zone.
More (and better) information of the businesslink website. The umbrellas are just rip-off merchants like the training brokers and outfits that claim compensation for miss-sold insurance. Ignore them!
I have looked at it doing that way.but some agencies will not touch you, unless you are ltd.and as this is possible short term.i döt want the expense of going ltd

Paramount company formations sell ltd co cheap and quick then get a self employed accountant type to do ya payroll, keep all recipts keep a track of all business milage, as yourman saidnew boots company clothing, and then you can keep the company, if you dont need it for a bit you can leave them dormant and costs nothing, speal to a chartered accountant its very easy to do.
you can register a Ltd company name and get a company number at companies house and set up in business for as little as £19.
with that you can get a bank account & with little work online setting other aspects of the company up and your away within a few hrs, or getting an accountant to do it if your not so savvy for a small fee
