What’s the worst you’ve been overloaded inadvertantly or otherwise.
I had 2x 12yard skips for a wait and load at LUL Lillie Bridge underground depot, they were putting in railway line and the ‘chairs’ that they sit in. I only let them put it about 2’ high in each skip so as not to overload it. Got back to the yard and found that I was 37.5t (5.5t over) for a very tired old 310 motor it wasn’t obvious.
One of the wag and drivers there brought two roll off bins in and grossed 56t
I got tasked with moving a tracked crusher once and was told it was about 20t, it took a little while for it to twig as I don’t often drive the big toys but I got the feeling it was a bit heavier than they’d said. Called Extec the next day and they said it was 35t.
Harry Monk:
I pulled onto a weighbridge at 53 tonnes when the weight limit was 38 tonnes.
You’ve beat me there went to 43 tonne with a load of spuds when the limit was 38 tonnes, I’d only just passed my test, so would take on any job, got a phone call asking if I would do a job the next day as the regular driver couldn’t do it. Now older and slightly wiser I reckon the regular driver refused to take it.
I’ve had 72 pallets on me coming out the palletways hub before and 26 of the pallets were tonne bags of aggregate lol, they were all flat so they basically double stacked the bottom deck then filled the top deck as normal. Triple deckers are the way to go!!!

i had to move a sprinter from the M4 a few years back. breakdown patrol had been out to it to change a wheel, and their 5t trolley jack wouldn’t lift it. the bed on my wagon struggled to load it (rated at 6 ton swl) old bill pulled up while i was loading it and said that they were going to ■■■■■■ me to the weighbridge coz they were curious. offloaded in the carpark, and drove it thru on the rim (knackered already) front axle 3.5ton, rear axle 5t

Not done an overload myself but i do know a guy who took out a 3.5 t transit flat bed that was left loaded from the night shift. He was pulled by VOSA just outside the gate and was 1.5 ton over, on a 3.5 T ■■■■■■ FFS! He was the one that copped a 250 quid fine!

I’ve had 21t on a 6w Foden Alpha. It wasn’t “full” to look at it was about 2/3 (about 11m3 of a 14m3 body) full, and our TM was with me after several drivers had complained about the overloading.
On board weighers were retro fitted to most wagons after that as TM told directors we were moving x amount of tonnes for free (muck done by the load).

Idid a short stint for EXTEC in the early 90’s never again…allways asking you to just nip it down the road a bit after you had done your max hours, that nip was another 200 k’s in east germany ! we didnt see eye to eye.
