Any recommendations for a good site to get the latest travel news?
The Highways app was good but they messed about with it. Still good for motorways and most A roads but was better before

Is that this site highways.gov.uk/traffic-information/
Traffic Scotland’s site is good for info if you’re up this way. Their twitter page is also very good too. They often have details of incidents posted on their feed before the emergency services have even arrived on the scene.
if i look at a route on Google maps it usually highlights any trafic in yellow on the route shown

+1
Just open google maps and put the traffic overlay on top for general feel, or input a destination for route specific.

I do night trunking work and I am finding that it is common for roads to be closed during the night for planned maintenance work to be performed, it would be handy to find out before setting off if there is any planned road closures on my route and I have been looking for a site that gives this information. If I do a google search to see if there is any planned work on a particular road I tend to get info that is years out of date that I have to filter through first.
For example this week I picked up that the A14 it was closed at night between junctions 26 and 29, it would of been handy to know the closure time and opening time of the road for route planning purposes before setting off.
possibly not ideal for hgv but I use waze in my car and find its quite good for local area stuff.
I use AA traffic, free app on Android. Would imagine there will be similar for I phone. Very good as well, helped me loads of times.

I use that & the Highways Site for Motorway Flow, also listen to Ken Bruce’s Girlfriend for the ‘Often’ Out of Date Travel News.
As someone else said the AA app is pretty spot on if you can download it!
Rac and AA apps, along with google maps traffic for any red areas (severe traffic) that may not be on the apps yet.
Rac uses coloured dots to indicate severity of traffic problems, (after a long period of people moaning about the app devs removing them) which are really helpful for a quick glance.
Both apps can also overlay roadworks, though the AA seems more reliable.(IMO)
