Best truck sound system

Willy Gofar:
Driver…Boss I think you should buy this truck cos it’s got a great stereo and loads of things I like.

Boss…Yeah but this truck costs 8 grand less and does an extra .8mpg.

Mmmmmm wonder which truck Boss will buy. :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

Well, as driver retention is a very big issue for companies many know the benefit of speccing the trucks to a higher standard. In this case they could buy that one at 8K less, and with the better fuel consumption, then either pay a few quid more for a decent head unit and speakers or even pressure the salesman into throwing them into the deal. Everyones a winner then.   :stuck_out_tongue:

I have to say that most of the newer trucks I’ve driven have pretty good sound systems but when the squeeze is on I don’t think the boss will give a rat’s arse about what the driver would like.

My biggest beef as an agency driver is that I always have to re-tune the darned thing to Radio 4 and if it has been abused and doesn’t light up anymore that can be difficult.

The set up I had in my old 380 FH was the best.
I had a Pioneer head unit.
A six disc changer fitted behind the passenger seat.
Under the driver’s seat was a 120w amp.
The speakers in the sleeper I replaced with Pioneer 150w jobbies.
Fantastic,it would really make the windows rattle.

The radio cassette fitted in my Merc has real good bass.
But,why do they still fit cassette units?
Who the hell plays cassettes these days?

My ‘05’ FM12 Globetrotter doesn’t have the rear cab wall speakers, and the speaker grilles in the door are just for show.

The two speakers it does have can’t handle the bass at all so I usually set it to -2, because I hate distortion.

The Volvo head unit is fine. Think it is a VCR300 off the top of my head. The CD player never skips, and the radio reception is fantastic - I can even pick up Capital FM in Huntingdon - in good weather!

If you wanted to fit extra speakers, either in the doors or in the sleeper, the Volvo has all the wiring fitted at the factory.
In the sleeper all you have to do is feel where the speakers are normally fitted and you will feel the outline of the hole, then carefully cut the lining where you’ll see the cable taped inside complete with plug.

As for the door speakers, just prise off the grille and again the plug will taped inside.

Sorry didn’t make myself clear…wasn’t refering to the sound system…when i had a little rant…i was refering to just general simple things throughout the whole make of the truck…

Had a FM12 440 auto i drive demonstrator on Monday.

It has the standard Volvo radio/cd player and all 6 speakers (dash, door & rear wall) The door & rear speakers were a bit weak but with a bit of fiddling with the fader I got it sounding pretty good.

What annoys me is on a £60 000 tractor unit they fit £10 speakers!!

Life’s a Gas this is one of the things i mean…expensive truck…with cheap or non existent simple additions
