im in a bit of a toss up which is the best route through france lux then cut across to stuttgart and onto munich or begium into germany and head down 
Aachen to Munich is prohibitive by MAUT costs nowadays. France Lux will be cheapest but not shortest. You have to balance the costs.

Aachen to Frankfurt to Munich then. You are not going to save money going through Lux for fuel

I agree, that would be the route I would choose.
Used to be able to get from Congleton to Munich in just over 16 hrs in a van as follows:
Calais-Lux-B10 Pirmasens (not as sat nav suggests via Mannheim)-Karlsruhe-Stuttgart-Ulm-Munich.
I have been most ways including Aachen-Mannheim-Stuttgart and to be honest find Lux way quicker only by mins but the time difference between any of the routes is only litterally minutes.
