by the way am I right wen I said twin splitter ie it was a short stubby gear lever with 4 positions and a metal lever in the front of stick that moved from left to right in 3 positions

Yep, that’s the baby. Best gearbox ever

That was only fitted on the modern ones
The original twin splitter as fitted to the Foden I drove in the 80s had the conventional 4 position gear lever , but had another lever fitted on steering column marked L, D and O
the modern version was then as you describe

Took a lo ride Volvo 520 to Italy a couple of years back, and coming home up Mont Blanc at 40t she was just epic. Never driven a truck that pulled so well. Just seemed to dig in and find a bit extra every time.

As for modest power, a 380 ■■■■■■■ ERF I had for a while was pretty good.

Volvos I find are like that… the heavier they are the better they go!!!

I drive a FH13 460 (62 plate) and when she has got weight on her she is great!!

A lobster went to a disco and pulled a mussel.

There wasnt a series 1 FH 500, unless it was a chipped up 420 or 460, or a series 2(which there was a FH500)
There was a 16 litre 520 thou.

Sorry didn’t mean to offend any one, I’m not as young and pedantic as I used to be. They were of course16 liter 520, because they were really heavy on the front end . For some reason I always refer to them as 500’s.
