Which foreign nationality would you say has the most professional drivers on UK roads?
Obviously we can only go by where the truck is registered unless we’d actually asked the driver.
For me it has to be German. They seem to be of a much higher standard than many other European drivers. Does anyone know if there test is more exhaustive than other countries?
Turkish drivers.
If you speak to them, they will cook you a five course meal or strong tea or coffee.
They used to drive in suits years ago.And good shoes.
Iranian drivers were good in Italy.
Romanian and Bulgarian drivers have got much better in the UK.
They just plod on slow.
I’ve always thought the Dutch were good and very professional in their approach to all things driving. We have a Welsh driver that’s pretty good too does that count ?
From personal experience of having lots of wagons in at work, the top drivers have got to be the Dutch. They’ll put an artic where no one else can. Then jump out with a smile and be really friendly while they tip and then just trundle off. Generally a nice experience.
English drivers are ok. Tend to get some whingey ones that seem to make out that tipping a load is a real inconvenience. The odd one or two are like the dutch though to be fair.
Greeks aren’t bad. What they lack in skill, they make up for in “willing to have a go” and working it out.
French are too scared to take their wagons anywhere that isn’t the queens highway. We’ve had to unload them on the road before. NOT a good place to stop…
Sadly, EE’s get lumped into 1 category… Not great. Willing to give it a shot but tend to cause damage. Brick gateposts, cars, their truck, verges, kerbs. They aren’t too worried about what they need to nudge or run over…
This is just from my experience of the guys we get coming in here…
Although you don’t see loads of them here, I always find the Scandinavians best, as they have to respect the weather for most of the year, suppose it would make you a calmer and more observing driver
All depends? Germans and Dutch are good but it depends who you come across! Turks and hungarocamion very good at repairing his tilt and TIR cord when a daft Englishman misjudged his overhang trying to park next to him in birchanger services plus some cracking Flemish, eye tie and French lads knocking around! the best though is this little mancunian writing this, so stick it in your crack pipe and smoke this! who said jockenese? lol

could be due to their visits to coffee shops back home
I used to work with a lot of Poles and found they were always the first ones to offer help if you were struggling.
I had an awkward blindside in the services one day (Peterborough I think) when it was rammed.
All the other drivers were sat in the cabs watching me, hoping I would make a balls up of it, but not the Pole…straight out of the cab, watching my blind side and giving directions.
I also found them very polite, to the point where one was giving directions on how to get somewhere to a fellow Pole. I was asked permission if he could speak to his countryman in Polish.
really? the folk who spend their days driving at 74kph on the motorway with the overtaking ban and speed up to 94 when it ends. or just speed up when you are overtaking them. and generally act like a loser in a lorry, still bitter about the fall of the third reich.
Dutch drivers, was stopped in a services one day when some stupid one came up in a brand new jag and put wrong fuel in… sitting next to him we watched the action unfold with a van coming to sort it out… he put his window down and said in perfect English ‘I think she has a spot of bother’
Other than that, every other dutch driver I have met has always been polite + helpful…
Can’t say the same for many others other than belgiums who are good also.
