I’ve been paid all ways, percentage, hours, salary, or a combination of all three, they all have their merits and disadvantages.
It really doesn’t matter as long as you divide your top line (not incl night out pay or ex’s) by the real number of hours worked, to get a rate per hour, its the only way to compare.
Paid by the hour ( with a set amount of basic hours per day ) plus overtime and a fuel bonus i personally don’t agree with a bonus for keeping truck clean after all that’s part of the job from what i have been told you pay structure seems ok as
Hourly rate always what I’m after. When paid shift there is always some drivers doing 8hrs and others doing 12hrs+. It’s one of the reasons I quit my last job.

personally i like to be paid for what i do, i don’t want to get a percentage of earnings as i don’t take the business risks that the company does ,my motivation is simple to earn a decent wage for a weeks work and to be treated in a fair way that’s the way to get the best out of me
Only bonuses that are still paid while you are on holiday should be included as a wage.
mine is salaried with O/T paid after my hours are reached and holiday pay is salary + the average of my last 6 weeks O/T.

Think that’s the way how things should work.
On average I take home 600 weekly compare 300 when on holidays. Think as a most. Only good side our company are not working Christmas to New Year.
P.S
What company you are working for?
Just joking.

thought holiday pay is now a average of last 12weeks pay…
My holiday pay is my normal salary (36.15 hours per week) but they pay us our average overtime as well from the last 6 weeks. If you know you’re going away then you put extra hours in for 6 weeks before and get more money when away.
Need some input from those of you on the frontline … What do you think is the best way to be paid as a truck driver? i.e. what is most motivating.
For example Basic Pay + Overtime or bonus or bonus depending on the earnings of the vehicle or maybe something completely different?
What is the best way you have ever been paid and why?
Thanks in advance for your help.
if it was me id take Basic Pay + bonus depending on the earnings of the vehicl, as every where ive work for over the years ive always had the best earning truck on the fleet

Which is great if your face fits, not much good if it doesn’t.
For me it has to be paid by the hour hands down winner. Plus overtime at a proper rate ie time and a half and double time Sundays, none of this time plus 50 pence bollox after 8 hours that seems to be prevalent now.
Big money can be earned on percentage work, but you need a truthful boss and a fair allocation of workload amongst the workforce to prevent resentment. Drawbacks of this are basically crap, overcrowded roads, numerous accidents blocking roads, stroppy and unhelpful customers keeping you for hours on site. Add all that together and you have a potentially very dangerous driver eager to cut corners to make back what he/ she has lost.
