Best 8 wheeler tipper?

Just wondering what the best modern - thats either available still at this time, or out shortly?

The MOST modern is the Mercedes Arocs

I don’t know if it’s the best…does anyone here drive one?

Depends if payload matters. Daf must still be amongst the lightest. I’d go for Volvo FMX. Scanias are fairly light and reliable but overpriced, MAN too heavy with cheap interior and crap auto 'box. Basic gaffers motor, Hino.
I’ve heard the Merc Arocs has a very high tare weight.

Scania p spot on!! Had a volvo fmx 11 plate it was an auto with Bridgey snow and mud tyres absolutely hopeless off road IMO, we got some renaults auto and they were brilliant on the tips they had a switch in the cab that held the gears and locked up the axles? Not entirely sure but the driver said it was spot on!

An old Foden will do just fine!

I drove a Premium Lander for a couple of months and the major letdown was the terrible MANUAL gearbox. Apparently the autos are better.

Sat in my mates new arocs Monday looked ok but the cab felt very narrow and I don’t know if I’d fancy jumping in and out of it all day it’s bloody high. He said it was heavier than the actross he had and the dafs he’s driven but as it’s brand new loves it regardless ill find out in a few weeks after the novelties worn off what it’s really like. The fmx seem very popular and I’m noticing a lot off iveco’s popping up recently too.

Yes our firm has one & driver has nothing but praise for it, he did say the gearbox takes some getting used to as it’s the first automatic truck on our fleet. Fitted with an Ally body so it won’t be getting stuck on tips. I actually quite like them n all. 20t payload n all.

Volvo FM 500bhp ishift with the right software spec and Hill Start on it and you won’t go far wrong in my opinion.
No matter how many years people have run lorries there’s so much available these days it’s too easy to spec a chassis up and miss out on so much. My advice is talk to the salesman about all the available options on new or what upgrades can be loaded onto used & you’ll end up with a very good lorry for the job.

I saw a Renault Lander in Lafarge Tarmac colours yesterday and noticed the weight plate on the side reading “20.2t”. Pretty good for a sleeper cabbed 8w with all the usual junk bolted on to keep the h & s people happy.

Am driving a 60 reg MAN auto, it beats a manual any day and carrys 19.2 tonne

CF by a mile. Lightweight, tough and pretty well priced. Get a 410 with a manual and you’ll not do much better.

Any of you have pics of your tippers that’s what would love to do but tring to get set on full time well it’s impossible :unamused:

No longer driving tippers but once you’ve done something else, the attitude of colleagues (most of whom couldn’t do any other driving job) and the rush rush rush, fiddling of tickets and being seen as the lowest form of lorry driver, you soon get fed up.
Food deliveries are probably the most secure job IMO.

i had a brand new fmx-didnt like it at first with the i shift, soon got to like that, however the brakes were borderline dangerous!! great thing about a volvo is the excellent engine brake, but the service brakes in the fmx i had left a lot to be desired in an emergency…and dont bother venturing too far off road in one…
