Having previously been in Germany for a few years,let me tell you,that there are many,many wealthy people,and an awful lot of sticksTo be fair Trump and Farage aren’t exactly poor.Make no mistake this is more a Nationalist v Socialist argument not rich v poor.Merkel’s background among other zb wits like Hollande and Corbyn being clear in that regard.
The left are trying to make “having any money at all” being the qualifier for “being evil” or “being far right” etc.
This means that the “just about managing” crowd, thrifty with their cash, “waste not want not” attitude to life, “make do and mend”, are currently being treated like dirt by BOTH ends.
You don’t have to “live in the countryside” to be that.
People living in the sticks may well encounter “via their 65” TV" - but I suggest it’s the guys that’ll be delivering that tv rather than appearing on it on some biased BBC drivel about “how the citizens of Aleppo are on the verge of extiction now that the hated liberation has occurred” and other such ■■■■■■■■.
I lived in Germany (Black Forest Region) 1982-1985 when I had a girlfriend over there, and no job to come back to here at the time. I can’t imagine there’s more sticks than there are in the affluent Schwarzwald area, not with many living the middle class lifestyle as they were even back in the early 80’s whilst British workers “ad it tuff” at the time, ‘auf wiedersehen pet style’ if you will…
Merkel might have relied on their support for essentially “we fear change” in any case. The future though? - “Change” is fast becoming a lot more desirable than “more of the same”. Perhaps the roll of political upsets in elections will continue… In the meantime, we’ve got the French Election first. I would imagine the establishment are gonna throw the kitchen sink at that to prevent Le Pen getting anywhere yet again. The way Hollande has “got out of the way” in favour of this new centre-right candidate - beggars belief. Do they REALLY think they can ape Le Pen’s more “moderate” policies this late in the day?

“Far Right” seems to be anyone “right of Merkel”.
Pergida however, are continuing to make Petry look like a centre-right candidate, who continues to climb in the polls.
I would equate Frauke Petry with Nigel Farage of course.

But with recent events things could now turn out differently, with former servicemen in their 70’s having warrants served against them for murder when taming terrorists in Northern Ireland.
This is after the debacle of cases brought against our servicemen for action in Iraq, even though subsequently the a lawyer heavily involved has been found to have been paying alleged victims to make a case, he has lost his repute and job, but what about the cases previously buttoned up?
