Benfields transport deddington

Does anyone remember Benfields of Deddington? They regularly delivered bulk coal to our company Bakers of Oakley (Basingstoke) in the 70s and 80s We later purchased one of the their trucks an ERF A series 6x4 tractor which we had converted to a heavy recovery unit and after many years of recovery work on the M3 and the local area was taken out of service is still in our compound .

I remember them, they used to be based in the garage on the left before the traffic lights in the town coming from Banbury direction and had a small fleet of tippers and bulk artics. A friend of mine’s wife worked in the office at the time back in the seventies but I can’t think of her name, have’nt seen him for years and I think they’re divorced. Benfields always had a smart colour scheme of red and blue.
Chazzer

I remember them when I was on coal, I often used to chat with some of them when waiting to load, and that could be hours in those days, don’t know what happened to them, as chazzer said they had a smart colour scheme.

Get young Nathan on to it! he’ll soon find something out about 'em, if he doesn’t know already, he’s a walking encyclopaedia that lad!

Yes We have the ERF 6 wheeler TBW175G Its now retired and behind our workshops. WE had many years of service from it towing and winching crashed trucks. We knew all th benfield driver and Derick and Ena Benfield. Do I remember that Brian was a nice young chap who died quite young. I have lots of pics of TBW doing recover and when I learn how to post them on Trucknet I will do so.

Regards,
David Baker (RECOVERY)

ERF TBW 1741G is now been sold by Bakers Recover to one of th original drivers at Benfields , Tony Beale.
Who better to have her, David Baker

That tanker crash brings back old memories it was a couple of hundred yards up the road from I lived.

Some time ago i placed the photo of our erf that we used to run as a recovery truck after we bought it from benfields. I,ve now posted a photo of the truck when it was a tractor unit / coal bulker. Derek benfield offered it to us for sale. It regularly used to deliver coal and we converted it into a recovery truck and it spent many years with doing heavy recoveries on the M3 and surrounding roads.
A couple of years ago we sold the vehicle back to one of benfields original drivers whoo we believe is restoring it.
