bellgate????????

does anybody know what has happened at bellgate international from spalding moor ive heard rumours that they had some agency drivers running bent to spain so decided enough was enough. :imp:

Yep its true, another one bites the dust,my mate rang only yesterday for a job as hes getting laid off  to the reply of "we wont be looking for anymore drivers ever again, shut up shop, not interested"exact words.

ITS A â– â– â– â–  SHAME :frowning:

Truck & Plant Trader, Sat 29th on the premises of Bellgate uk ,on-site auction of their 14 high cab’s ,6 wheel curtainsider,18 trailers plus, bits & bobs

blimey! i rang them six months ago for a job :open_mouth: … glad i didnt take it now :frowning:

I will ring my old mate tomorrow, he worked there and doesnt run a second over his time. Ex Hewson Bros, George Allinson, before it became Bellgate.

Seems a great shame,

i was talking to a european road freight driver last sunday,he was telling me it was a mix of getting in trouble from the ministry and drivers stealing from him :exclamation: .
he says his company is doing well ,even if he was weekended in a layby on the A1 at elkesley.
also brian yeardley has a lot of new wagons on the road now.

i think that the advert for the sale of the trucks read that it was due to restructuring of the work but i knew it was the whole shebang that was going to be sold off, last year they were advertising the same trucks for sale with work.

are you telling me that european road frieght weekended their driver at elkersley 1 hour from the yard and the driver stood for it. i think i must have missed something.

jeffries of otley used to do a lot of italian work for bellgate i remember one of their drivers boasting to me that he left leeds at 4am monday did 6 drops in the middle of italy and 3 collections in italy and was back in leeds at 4pm fridayâ– â– ?

yes
i frist noticed him on fri night watching telly, thought it was strange he wasnt brought home. went to lincoln sat morning with another one of ours ,(ex yeardleys) he was still there  .which caused a bit of chat about why he was there. i tipped lincoln and returned north and had my break behind him in the layby. he got out with a card reg plate and tryed to fit it to the trailer and was having no luck fitting it,hopped out to see if i had a spare plate in the locker for him, as someone had nicked that night :open_mouth: my first question to him was why had no one come down to fetch it home.they are all shipping out sun night no one to fetch it home.he had planned to stop at newark cattle market but it was shut for a fair. seemed a decent bloke and my mate had a spare plate he could fit his card plate on which pleased him. his load was tiles for yorkshire and preston. he didnt seem to bothered about not getting home after 3 weeks, drinking stella watching the rugby.
i must admit i would have been steaming

i would say that he was talking crap
it is about 2 days driving leeds to turin/milan for a start.then you have the tips/reloads.
then getting up north for 1600 on a friday night :exclamation:
leaving sun, tipping and reloading turin/ milan area and back for fri is possible.

first of all him in the layby must be a bit of a joker to sit at elkersley all weekend any normal person or even half normal would think …stuff this and cadged a lift into doncaster and caught the train or got one of their mates to pick them up. and the driver from jefferies proberly was lying i thought so myself but never having been to italy i didnt know but apparntley at the interview at jefferies you are asked if you can “peddle it” and the drivers all run bent anyway… dodgy i remeber one telling about one of their drivers keeping on and on and on to the gaffers he wanted to do italy and the euro in the end they let him and on his first trip he got weekended at dover started crying cos no one would pick him up  and never went out again. :exclamation: :exclamation:

leeds to milan is 21 hours driving time and no less, work it out for yourself but it is more than 2 days driving each way so it doesn’t leave much time for tipping and reloading legally.
as for the guy in the layby, a year ago he wouldn’t have been there but since the ministry have been in and threatened to revoke the o licence of erf they have been squeaky clean and any driver that fails to stay on top of the legal side of the tacho regs will be down the road, they aren’t even allowed to run from hull docks to the yard if they don’t have the time to do it legally.
i can’t think why he would choose a layby though unless he had no money or is saving up for something or prefers his own company.

i agree about the time it takes running to italy i think he was trying to show off how great he is at running bent which i know they do cos they dont hide it… it didnt impress me. :exclamation: :exclamation: :exclamation:

In the early and mid 90s at a company my dad used to work for, some of the drivers would actually drive from Hull to Barcelona in one stint! Hull to Milan without stopping was another common one too. The drivers who insisted on driving legally were put on the Holland/Belgium/Germany run. You only got to run to Spain and Italy if you severely broke the law.

i remember a driver telling me that they went on the wire for 24 hrs as soon as they got to the blanc , tipped and loaded in italy , ready for run back home , i asked if he got big money for this and was told no its normal aint it :astonished: , well not for me

i dont know why people do it and when theres no extra money involved something i cant understand.

In my previous life Bellgates used to do our transport, collect 12-15 pallets from near Venice, on Friday afternoon and deliver them 6am to Hull.

Not sure if they were running Scanias or Boeing 747s

merlin

take your time

Thats 6am Monday morning in Hull.
