Don’t know much about anything to do with haulage these days as I retired from the industry 7 years ago. I try to keep up to date by logging on here. I do know that their website is at bellgate.co.uk/

Sorry if you already know this.

i rang them just after i had posted this and spoke to a pleasant man in there office (think his name was paul). i used to weekend quite regularly with there drivers in carisio. oh well… another one down the pan . seems they have shut up shop.

I have to wonder how much longer our International sector will remain in existence. Since 1989 the percentage of exports from Britain by road carried on British registered vehicles has gone from approximately 50% to just under 25% and despite driver accompanied traffic to and from Britain increasing during the last year, the over all percentage carried by British trucks continues to fall, add this to the fact that its ever increasingly common to find Eastern European drivers on what small numbers of British trucks do go abroad, the future looks bleak unless something is done EU wide to give a level playing field, which is never going to happen and if it does, it will be far too late for us. I personally cant wait until the French feel the pinch abit more and French companies dare employ Eastern Europeans at the expense of Frenchmen, no doubt it’ll be a matter of hours before all land and sea borders are blocked and the ridiculous situation we’re in will be brought to public attention, who will no doubt be more concerned with the shortage of Spanish oranges in Tescos rather than giving a ■■■■ about their fellow countrymen who have lost their livelyhoods due to incompetent politicians in Westminster and lunatics in Brussels.

According to this thread

trucknetuk.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=9311

on the Euro-forum, they have ceased trading and are auctioning off all of their assets at the end of the month.

I think these figures are for freight traffic through the channel ports

I wonder if when calculating these figures they count the fuel runners at the weekends if so the situation is worse than it appears on face value

Just spoke to my mate about this.

Paul was very dis-illusioned with the Transport industry and the calibre of drivers he was getting. Hardly any of them understood the tacho rules, and they were all trying to fleece the expenses.

When the Ministry became interested in the company, He decided to call it a day and put all the equipment up for auction. Also according to this mate the prices the equipment fetched was very high.

So maybe someone did come up smelling of roses.

The boss has been with this company for many years from the office boy to MD

I believe some of the regular drivers have already been taken on with other decent companies.

thats a strange thing.
drivers that cannot work tacho’s but know how to fiddle diesel and expenses, perhaps they were just drivers who knew how to fiddle everything but not very well or they wouldn’t have got caught out.
you wouldn’t beleive how stupid some drivers that fiddle tacho’s are (perhaps you would though).
i have met drivers that make a note of any driving time left on tacho’s so they can use it later in the week. they take the days card out and slip in the one with the driving time left over, absolutely hilarious.
i didn’t think that there were people around that could be so stupid but there are.
