Belgian Overtaking Ban Sign's

Can anyone help me with the definative answer as to what these sign’s actually mean…

Sorry, posted this in the forum, please can admin move it for me please…

Done  D.

As from 1st Jan 2008 there is a no overtaking ban on ALL two lane motorways in Belgium between 6am and 7pm.

The signs are to show you that, along that particular two lane motorway, you are only allowed to overtake between 7pm and 6am.

Very confusing I know, but that’s the Belgians for you,if only they had put up the same signs that are used everywhere else in europe (round sign with red border) then we would all have no trouble in understanding the restriction.
Basically it’s just another money making idea at the expense of truckers.

That sign hasn’t got any times on it at all.

Personally, I would have said that particular sign means you are allowed to overtake on that stretch, at any time. Until you reach a sign with times on it, or a more conventional ‘No Overtaking’ sign.

If it had 1900 - 0600 (or 19 - 6 ) in the bottom of the sign, then I would say it means ‘Overtaking allowed between these times’.

Have I miss understood the new rules KW ?

That’s what I’ve been doing on that stretch. A couple of weeks ago I overtook on that stretch when there was a police car behind me, the manoeuvre didn’t cause them concern. In fact when I put the indicator on they eased up a little to let me out.

My take on it is there is a ban on all two lane motorways except where signs indicate otherwise. Sometimes those signs allow overtaking at a certain time - 19:00 to 06:00 as indicated by an additional plate on the sign - and sometimes at any time, as in the sign in the picture. The only time I wouldn’t overtake when it is that particular sign is when it is raining.

At the start of the overtaking ban there should be a sign indicating the times, the sign in the picture is just a reminder that you are still in an overtaking ban.
At the end of the restriction there will be a sign the same, but with a red line across it.

There are also posters on the two lane stretches (in Vlaanderen and Wallonie) in various languages telling you that there is a no overtaking ban for vehicles over 3,5t.

Make no mistake, this is a countywide ban,and whilst the police may turn a blind eye, since this was only introduced at the start of this year, they will be enforcing it.

Ah, cunning, I see their plan now.

Cheers Keith. :open_mouth:

I am confused ,is it not 24hrs a day

I am still confused, on that stretch with the blue sign without times, overtaking allowed 24 hrs a day, blue sign is only advisery because you are still not allowed to overtake when it is raining

Now that i understand, If they put up the Red round signs they have then got to put up the black and white round signs with diagnal stripes in the parts where overtaking is allowed, to cancel the red signs, but they cant do that because they are then lifting two overtaking bans (2lane and raining) thats why blue advisery overtaking ban signs
