Being talked to like crap

LeedsChris:
Don’t get a job night trunking into Palletways at Fradley Park.Shocking the way they talk to drivers there.

I haven’t been spoken to like crap there tbh, I go very occasionally though. I notice they don’t like to answer the buzzer to open the gate.

fork lift drivers [the worst]

I object. I try to be polite and helpful. I even have the odd driver ask for me by name.

Don’t take it personally, Seth. Goods in staff know they have power over you so they abuse it cos their own life is crap. They dictate how long you are on a bay for. They dictate how long to unload you before you can leave. It’s a power thing, but the worse their management is, the worse they are. You just got to grin and bear it I’m afraid. Do you get any free samples from other suppliers/customers? I find passing on free samples to miserable goods in staff works wonders.

The worst place I’ve ever been is Norberts at Heathrow. After 10 minutes of waiting at the (barricaded) goods in window, one bloke looked at me like I’d ■■■■■■ his mother and came up to the window and just said “yes?” The rest of them kept watching videos on their iphones so I guess he was the nice one. When I said I had a delivery he just muttered “ffs i dont need this …just go outside and someone will call you on to a bay. anything else?” seriously though, its the management that produce these people.

There isn’t a buzzer to open the gate on a night. You must go through the day where apparently they are a decent bunch.

Since ive been on tnet theres is a few things ive started to notice, this week ive had a gut full of people talking to me like im on their shoe, security men ,goods in staff usually plonked behind a sliding window, fork lift drivers [the worst]in fact everybody seems to talk to drivers like crap, wtf is going on has nobody got any manners anymore,u have to drive thru crappy traffic and delays no fault of your own and when you get to the place you are given a bollockin,a grunt or a you a late where have you been,■■■■■■ off with it this week ,no need :frowning: :frowning: :frowning:

Since I started driving trucks I’ve not really noticed too much of this, but a wee tip to you… If you find that sickening or disrespectful, never become a bus driver lol 7 years of driving buses through Glasgow, there isn’t much that someone can say, there is no attitude, that can phase me

I know what you mean though, everyone can do your job better than you

I think it has a snowball effect,it starts at the management then works it way down then back up again ,in the end everybody has caught it :frowning:

That attitude towards drivers has always around, just ignore it Seth. They are brave in the sanctuary of their own workplace, but not so brave out of it. Most of them are frightened of their wife.

Respect to you, I wouldn’t last a day doing that.

Ive been driving 22yrs dave and its allways been water off a ducks back, its just gettin worse m8 ,id say 9 out 10 people you meet are not nice to deal with,if i was new to this game id be thinking wtf is all this about, unless im dropping on them who are not gettin the leg over

hi i am a class one driver at the weekend only ,and drive forklift some weekdays ,i think the security guys are the worst i just cant take any ■■■■ from them especially after 13 hours work ,when i am unloading wagons on the forklift i go out of my way to help drivers and be pleasant to them ,i suppose it all depends how much you really need the job ,how much crap you can take from people ? i seem to have a very low threshold at the moment :

Not wearing this hat to work may help.

We get spoken to by baker in Bromyard as if we’ve just been dropped off by the Sunshine Bus. Everytime we walk in with bags he makes silly comments infront of his staff like (don’t drop the bags hard, stack them neatly please). If any bags have even the slightest splits in them he expects them for free. I refused to give two of them to him (left them on the lorry) to which he asked why.
“They’ve both been split by rusty nails.”
“I’ll take them off you but for free.”
(in earshot of a packed shop of customers) “so you want to use ingredents in your bread which are contaminated by rusty nails?” :smiling_imp:
He signed the ticket and skulked off…in silence for once.
Who says drivers aren’t united? All of us hate that customer.

I think it why a lot of drivers have nearly all their side windows covered by curtains so only their hands are showing, its because they are scared to death of the knock on the door at drops, behind the tassles and pelmets is a dithering mess

I think it all to do with ■■■■■ envy. Everyone knows driving a forklift all day or being sat in a transport office makes their appendages shrivel up to the size of a pencil. Obviously when they see a driver in the toilets standing well back and holding it with both hands they are bound to get a little ratty and volatile.

Just remember these words of wisdom when you are wondering why folks are being unpleasant to you - it’s just envy… :open_mouth:

Talk to people in the manner that you would prefer them to talk to you. If they are unable to grasp that concept then educate them back giving back twice as bad as you undeservedly experienced

It’s not just drivers, people talk to everyone like crap if they think they can get away with it. No style.
