Looking around (like yer do) I’ve come to the conclusion that 60% of wagon drivers are salad dodgers.
I certainly don’t buck the trend either.
Hazard a guess I reckon the average life expectancy of yer run of the mill Truck Driver is a good 5 or 6 years below the norm.
Do any of us truck netters on ere go to great lengths to fight the flab or are we all resigned to bulging guts?
The only exercise I get is dodging salad!
I started stacking on when I left my previous (very physical) job and started driving/sleeping for a living. In the last few weeks I’ve been limiting myself to salads, a bit of lean meat and lots of bananas.
I still treat myself to a Big Tasty every Friday though because life’s too short and Big Tastys are so big and tasty.
To be honest, it seems that there are far less fatties driving trucks than there were ten or twenty years ago. I have no idea why this would be.
4.5 miles a day off road running. Since August i’ve got it down to 34 minutes, and lost over 2 stone, down to 11.5. About where I should be. Dropped all the food on the road, take a packed lunch now, and get my five a day. It isn’t much fun, but the results are worth it.
Used to do it in the afternoons, but this clock change has forced me to do it straight after work when the sun is just coming up, and it isn’t much fun. No energy, and the mud and cold is similar to the Somme.
If I didn’t work nights, and get home every night, there is no way I could keep it up. Where would you run, and where could you wash afterwards?
It’s no surprise most of us look like we do, but i’m determined it isn’t going to happen to me.
Depends how much you want it. If you are in your twilight years, with a wife and 2.4 kids. Where is the motivation?
Get into the routine of exercise, easier said than done but worth it when you do.
The fear of actually beginning to look like a lorry driver is motivation enough.
Enough said.
In my job as a trade plater I do a fair bit of walking ,but I still have a beer belly and I dont drink ,
The macdonalds breakfasts dont help though.LOL

Yeah but before I would have a Double Sausage & Egg McMuffin instead of a banana.

Yes but the energy from a banana will last you a lot longer than an apple. A banana is a brilliant energy food
Oh and I’d say 60% is a bit optimistic. I reckon a good 85% to 90% have beer bellies.
I make sure I do plenty of exercise when on the road.
Up one two, down one two, then the other eye lid…
Ken.
Try my best to keep the weight off, haven’t got a bear gut just a bit too cuddly Take a pack lunch 1-2 rolls, banana, couple of cereal bars, 2-3 plums (perfect on the move food). Oh and some pro-plus for the longer night trunks, found the caffiene/energy drinks were destroying my teeth as well as piling on the flab, so try to stick to water.

I’m a tramper & try to eat healthily during the week, i’ve a good fridge in the cab & try to keep it stocked up with ready to eat salad/pasta/fruit etc, & restrict myself to eating out twice a week, however, since i came back to the industry 16 months ago my weight has been gradually increasing (either that or all my clothes are shrinking), & its getting to the point where i need to do something.
I joined a gym local to our yard not long ago, as i seemed to be spending a lot of down time there, soon as i joined the traffic office made alterations to how we operate & now i rarely ‘night out’ near the yard, spent £70 for 2 months membership & went once

Must be all that time in Solitary at Amazon wi nowt but bread and water
Healthy eating is probably the best most drivers can expect to do. A small minority will make the effort and do some exercise or go to the gym.
Personally I eat well but healthy, go to the gym and do cardio & weights for 1-2 hrs ideally every other day, but if not 2-3 times per week min is my aim. But due to the hours we keep I have been know to only go once a week (rare). If that happens I get withdrawal symptoms & feel guilty.
Whatever I do, I have not intention of developing a gut so big that I’ll need a mirror to see my ■■■■. I’m down to 12 stone and would like to shed a little more. But for that to happen I recon I’m gonna need to give up those 3-4 beers & tastey treats that I enjoy at the weekend. Which will stop for a while in the new year
I only started driving hgv’s 8 weeks ago…i have already gained 6lb in weight and i always take sandwiches, biscuits and cuppa soups, haven’t ate even one greasy dinner or bacon on toast but still putting the weight on…
At this rate by this time next year i will be about another 50lb heavier
John.
After a few years on trucks I’m getting so fat I can’t catch the prostitutes any more, keeps the murder rates down in my locality anyway.
