BEEP BEEP caution this vehicle is turning

Yeh, it was rhetorical. :unamused:

imagine a scenario:

Company install this bolox system. driver tampers with it. disables the beep. Kills the cyclist while turning left. Media makes the story bigger than nuclear war.

I hope no driver will ever be in such situation.

The Voice turn left doesn’t deter cyclist. Some times i get so close to a curb, them ■■■■■■■■ gets onto pavement just to get in front of the Left indicating lorry.

And for what?

Disabling the warning system could be seen as an aggravating factor, which could turn causing death by careless driving into causing death by dangerous driving, or at least increase the sentence imposed for causing death by careless driving. It could be the difference between a suspended sentence and imprisonment.

Disabling the warning could also lead to conviction for criminal damage. It could also invalidate the insurance policy for the truck, leading to conviction for driving with no insurance. The estate of the deceased could then come after the driver personally for negligence - and the driver in this scenario may well have no insurance to fall back on, placing their personal assets at risk.

I have no doubt the warnings are annoying for the driver. They are of somewhat questionable value in preventing cyclist deaths considering many cyclists deliberately impair their hearing whilst riding and even that those cyclists who ride with full ability to hear what is happening around them will start to filter the alarms out as background noise before long. However, it is inescapable that cyclists are dying or being seriously injured after getting into the nearside blind spots of heavy vehicles. As drivers, we might wish that pedestrians and especially cyclists had undergone some sort of vehicle awareness. The unavoidable reality is that some pedestrians and cyclists are non-drivers who have no interest in acquiring any sort of knowledge from the driver’s perspective.

How does this assist deaf people?

I guess they figured a braille warning on the side of the unit would be slightly more hazardous for said people to get the message, hence the speech warning and led strobes

Since when did Braille notices start being of use to deaf people? What you really need for such folk is a robotically controlled pair of hands to impart the warning in sign language…

Problem in a nutshell.
Why not have compulsory basic cycling training for all adult cyclists.

According to Borris and his gang, any kind of regulations to cyclist will act as deterrent and will take them off the road and back into the cars. Boloks.
