Been asked a strange question, ref training

Won’t name names, so no lol.

Now I’ve just spoken to a provider today and was posed the question…

'am I comfortable with lane closures, diversions?

Now I’m a touch lost([emoji1787]) as to why I’d be asked this, so simply gave the response, erm yeah where there’s a will there’s a way [emoji1787]

Anyone have the foggyist as to why they’d pose this question, is it some wierd comprehension test?

Got me on edge to be honest as I’m now wondering if the training routes go through Narnia, wonderland, or just off the yellow brick via Neverland…
Although if via the latter Jacko won’t be home so shouldn’t get any minors round there.

Possibly enquiring as to your capability of following signed diversions and not relying on your SatNav

Surely folk dont phone up to train and then ask…

Can/do we use Sat Nav while training /on test…?

I know we live in a special society now but surely it’d be obvious to anyone applying [emoji849]

Maybe there are some upcoming roadworks near their training centre which will likely cause “issues” for students who panic about such things? I’m thinking the question may be rooted in the need to make allowance for disabilities?

Actually they might - don’t run away with the idea that all trainees will be looking to go into paid employment…

Good shout.

I genuinely didn’t think about disabilities.

Just very strange was all, never been asked by anyone else I’ve enquired with…

I sense an air of scepticism in your reply… [emoji1787] [emoji1787]

I Didn’t think direct.Gov did any kind of funding for hgv?

possably trying to find out if when facing a road closure or diversion route can the trainee use their brains rather than sat nav etc to work around it showing an ability to have a bit of free will and common sence
which all of us who used to use paper maps and A2Zs developed years ago

No scepticism. I wasn’t thinking that the training was to be funded by HMG. Rather I was thinking that some folks embarking on C1 and C training will be looking only to drive e.g. a horsebox or similar for purely recreational purposes. For such drivers, the pressures of needing to get around/past diversions and road closures under the time pressures experienced by employed drivers simply won’t arise.

Probably had a ■■■ full of idiots who couldn’t find their way out of a revolving door.

Agreed the question is an odd one, what we have to remember here is that the job has been dumbed down to a point where everything is done for the “driver” and he or she doesn’t have to think anymore.

The problem with this is when anything out of the norm happens they are completely unable to deal with even a small problem and have to phone the office, anyone who has spent even a short time in a transport office will tell you this.

“drivers” calling up and saying if you don’t tell me how to get there I’m bringing the load back, one imbecile who couldn’t find his way from Avonmouth to Cheltenham did just that and said “could you give me a delivery that’s easier to find” or one idiot who brought a load back from Plymouth to Avonmouth because he couldn’t find the store.

These are the type of half wits that now do the job so in many ways a perfectly valid question.

No they probably don’t, but as SatNav’s are part of todays drivers essentials, he’s probably asking to clarify weather you rely on one or if you can use your noggin and understand the rerouting a diverting will take you on, don’t forget sometimes these diversions may have more than one icon, one for each route.

Cheers for all the replys fellas,

Some good sense in here [emoji108][emoji41]

I’ve no bother with maps, grew up on them with me dad, European scouting aswell, Plus three intensive years of loyal service with the woggle bashers when I were young, got me orienteering badge too, so that should stand me well I hope…
