BEDFORD…

British Engineering Disaster, Fix Or Repair Daily.

It took skill to drive my V8 Tm’s with their 2 stroke engines, they sounded great. People use to slate them, but I found apart from being heavy on fuel you never put a spanner on the engine, and I can honesty say they were the only motors that made me money and I had 3 of them.

It’s like a trip down memory lane this! My first job was working on them! TM, TK , AWD . As for the 2 stroke Detroit Diesels they sounded awesome! We had one on as a shunter at Cadburys in Bournville for years. Went like ■■■■ of a shovel. Sounds like i’m in my sixties and i’m not even forty yet!

Unlike the others on here I know what you are asking about. In fact the Managing Director of Bedfords is my best ever friend and has beed since about 1973 what do you want to know exactly ?
I can tell you that he was also my boss at one point and there is no driver I worked with or any employee who didn’t regard him as the worlds best boss, He is fair and a drivers man.

Nice one  they stopped making them a while back in the U.K, somebody in Sweden builds them now under licence I believe they are now called Scania.

A poor naive individual has come seeking information and advice on Bedfords Transport and due to poor phrasing has presented an irresistible opportunity for the persistent prattling on about old lorries, you naughty men.

Sorry!
Wrong thread.

Don’t flatter yerself mister. We knew exactly what he was talking about…

… but the opportunity to talk bollox about British lorries was irresistable. Think you’ve been over there too long Pat, you’re turning into a Septic; no sense of humor.

(Out of consideration for your adopted homeland I’ve changed the spelling so’s y’all can unnerstand it) :grimacing:

Word of warning re: Bedfords.

I know VOSA are hot on load security but don’t fill the sidelocker of your TK too full with straps.

back on topic- Bedfords - one of the better employers - average wage for the area but from what I hear the office talks to you as an individual- run 100% legal with fleet spec trucks - nothing flash but a solid and reliable company that does respect its employees- I did hear second hand so the details may be wrong - that a driver had to get home in a hurry due to a family emergency and they moved heaven and earth to get him back and moved other drivers loads shifts around to make it happen

I know a lad that works for them but through agency.

Decent company as I understand it and good motors. He works there a lot and likes it well enough.

Was talking to one of their drivers the other week and apparently the day rate is £6.80 :open_mouth:

Don’t know about wages etc. but have a friend who has worked there since Moses was a boy so it can’t be too bad.
I really doubt the £6.80, pretty sure my friend wouldn’t work for that.
