Bedford Lorries, you used to see them everywhere

They were fairly local to me when I lived in the area Mike, they owned several gravel pits and had a large fleet of tippers and mixers. Had a bit of a ‘reputation’ but I’m not sure why though? Of course they also had some tippers based in Buxton.

The Late Frank Goodwin from Longnor had one of those new on a ‘C’ reg and it served him well running from Ballidon quarry I believe he fitted an extra X member (from a Leyland I think?) near the Fuller gearbox for some now forgotten reason though, possibly as extra support for the heavy box? Jimmy Fairbanks bought it later when Frank purchased an AWD six wheeler, that saw Frank through to retirement. :wink:
