Transport contract from June, Wincanton out but keeping the warehousing.
Out because of utterly feckless management by all accounts, feckless to the point of beginning to wonder if it was deliberate as no one should be as useless as they are.
It’s been on a month by month since last August, it was so bad that senior management from Kraft came over from the US to see why the transport management was causing so many problems.
From what I’ve been told, it wasn’t the “frontline” management at the desk, it was those upstairs.
Feel sorry for the drivers, they’ve just had a significant rise and we’re due another in April.
I’d hazard a guess that K&N won’t be anywhere near once the tupe period is over and the contracts start changing in 6 months or so…….
K&N will give it a go, ■■■■■ a bit here ■■■■■ a bit there, mess it up, lose it.
Then Stobart/Culina will give it a go, ■■■■■ a bit here ■■■■■ a bit there, mess it up, lose it.
Then DHL will give it a go, ■■■■■ a bit here ■■■■■ a bit there, mess it up, lose it.
XPO… and so on…
Companies own fault. They try to save money by outsourcing then wonder why their stuff isn’t in the right place at the right time having added loads if middle management type roles. Best results are always own account operations
Culina/Stobart should probably get a bit twitchy regarding their Tesco DIRFT clothing/grocery work

I wouldn’t bank on K&N slashing prices, not there style,Wincanton are well known for slashing prices then not been able to do the contract,I’m ex K&N(now GXO or XPO?) Wincanton slashed the beer contract and completely screwed it up,believe sames happening at Morrisons and remember well when they undercut Brian Sissons on the Britvic job,I’d be happy working for K&N again,we all used to moan but in comparison they were alright to work for.

Yeah fair one but you get my point. Its the same few firms that get the gig and ruin it and the contracts just end up getting shuffled around like hot potatoes!
Tbf to K&N they seem to be more bespoke in the sense that they look after each contract independently instead of “consolidating” it into their existing network.

Why no mention of Tesco being ■■■■ , or are you now one of there fanboys , I mean ■■■■■■■ hours sat at there store gates because they couldn’t be assed to open it , they had no room apparently in the store , it’s ■■■■■■■ shift change , Tesco trailers that were a ■■■■■■■ ■■■■ tip ( loaded by Tesco employees ) etc etc etc
As for stobarts / cullina being bothered about loosing Tesco work I doubt they’d give a ■■■■ , when I worked for them they’d rather pull you out of Goole after delivering there & send you to Wakefield / Sherburn etc , Tesco pay ■■■■ rates
And to be honest I’d rather collect from stobart / xpo / dhl site than a ■■■■■■■ Tesco site any day
I remember being told to get the lorry out of Tesco Thurrock after 4 hrs , the Tesco manager said we will get you tipped , no give me my keys , I’ve been told to pull out , I then dropped that load back at becton , got a empty and then got load out of p&g ( wincanton , in and out in 30 mins
Nb the only decent Tesco site I can remember was balborough , showers / gym/ canteen , I often parked up there for the night , and what did Tesco do , they shut the ■■■■■■■ place
I started with Cannotwin on the milk, lasted 3 months…
Biggest Croc of dog excrement you can think of. Not enough serviceable trucks to collect milk from farms. No units to pull liners (liner work been outsourced now anyway), Liners in yhe wrong place, at the wrong time. No empty liners to tranship at night. ( Never seen so many farms simply not collected, on a regular basis). 14 hour + night shifts routinely planned. All planning done centrally, with a computer, by pointy shoes with 0 experience in Milk .
And to top it off, they’ve outsourced the payroll, with predictable results.
Typical undercut today, try to shave it tomorrow, to make it pay.
Avoid.
K&N will be a vast improvement on Wincanton, I very much doubt they slashed the rates to get the work. I did a few years for them and have no complaints at all, salary was above average and hours were sensible. All the other depots I went to seemed happy enough with them too, I suppose they’ll have bad contracts too but Heinz will be a similar gig to the one I was on. They lost the contract to Stobrats in the end, got seriously undercut with price and refused to budge on theirs
Are you sure it’s K&N as most of their UK operations were swallowed by GXO.
If it’s GXO there going for a full house in the North West,
Iceland Warrington , Co-op St Helen’s, Tesco Widnes, City Plumbing (formally Travis Perkins) Warrington, etc and now Heinz.

According to 3Ts website they are a 4PL provider (!!!) so basically, as Stanley says a glorified clearing house who don’t have any vehicles of their own. Presumably they don’t have any trailers either, so nothing could be pre loaded prior to collection unless Heinz own the trailers. 100+ loads a day to shift, and no guarantee anybody wants the work that day, what could possibly go wrong.
I worked for Wincanton for 6 years (TUPE’d over to them) As the original poster said, front line office staff were OK (but not brilliant) but the further up the chain you got, the more distant and chaotic it got. The proverbial too many chiefs etc

And they are ■■■■ about time keeping, which isnt a problem in itself delivery wise [normally], but they are crazy bat-crap about it for loading as well, again, that
s not an issue until you hit problems at the previous drop or on the road, Jesus Christ, they will not listen [that`s your problem, not theirs apparently]…AND, if you are constantly on time for loading & delivery, they start to chip away at the rate because you make it look easy …

They are a 4pl, aka glorified clearing house, but they own and write their own software to run the contract and subbies, of which they are very proud. They also work very closely with K&N, so my guess is that there will be an impressed fleet of units and drop trailers which will be K&N, whilst the rest will be given away to the lowest bidder.
K&N no longer exist. They are now called
GXO LOGISTICS DRINKFLOW HOLDINGS LIMITED
On their operator’s license.
Ironically Wincanton took over some the drinks work when GXO bought K&N.

GXO bought KNDL the drinks bit, I can assure you the Khune & Nagel (UK) Logistics Ltd very much still exist.

K&N still going, kept all the Pharmaceutical and MOD work, flogged the Drinks bit and most of the hospitality jobs to XPO which then rebranded that part to GXO.
Wincanton screwed the drinks job up,GXO doing most of it again now along with Maritime.
