Here here…it looks like im gonna be leaving the trade in the next few weeks cause i’ve had enough for the moment and the main thing im worried about is losing my licence due to this ■■■■■■■ waste of space CPC money making SCAM!!!
i paid £2000 for my licence, have built up my experience over the last 5 years so that means i am experienced in my job with hands on experience and am learning more as i go…why i now need to go and do 35 hours in a classroom for is beyond me…i thought my licence was for life unless its revoked for whatever reason…i feel totally conned and am very dis-illusioned with some of the dubious practices that a lot of companies are adopting in this “recession”
correct !
our firm went bust today! resulting in me losing my job !
came home with all my belongings from my cab and now am on the un-employed list !!!
gutted to say the least
luckily i can go back on the spanners so am looking 4 a job on the spanners as there r more available !
Sorry to hear that dude. Every cloud…
The driver CPC is a good idea if it was for people who are taking the HGV test i.e. newly qualified. It is a complete and utter waste of time and money for people who have already passed their test, more cost burden on business to pay some ■■■■■■ salary who had nothing better to do than think up hair brained schemes.
The most dangerous thing about the HGV test is you can pass in a wagon and drag and then jump in an artic with no experience of coupling up to and driving a semi trailer whatsover, ah the memories…
i agree with the cpc.
sorry to hear that mark, as much as i hate my job i feel very lucky to have at the moment.

JD. How can you agree with it, it demeans the skills of professional drivers that many have learned from the ground up, it is like having to know the difference between a Curly Ca and a Kicking Ka in primary school.
What someone should be doing is showing drivers how to safely fasten a load to the truck, teach them to read a map and stop treating them like ■■■■■
sorry with rushing my typing i forgot add " dont ".
the cpc is a right farce im not going to say what i want to so i dont incrimate myself.

LOL
Sorry mate. I thought you had lost yer marbles
Is there a way the UK can postpone the Driver CPC until well after the recession
This is surely the wrong time to bring it in.
Do I agree with it in it’s present form - NO
Would I agree with it if it was done as an assessment of what a driver can or cannot do with training for what they actually need, if anything - YES
So what you are saying Rog, rename it as an NVQ, and do assesments??
That sounds better, BUT still a lot of people who will be unable to get an assesment as they are agency employed, it will open up a can of worms, and put people out of work, poss some very skilled people…
lol at JD. I’d be all for the cpc for new drivers as I didn’t have much of a clue after I passed my test as i’m sure most others don’t. A nice few hours of, don’t drop the trailer, don’t skip the pin and dent the cab (still surprises me the amount of drivers that don’t raise the air suspension up on the unit before hitting the pin), always pull the pin last so the trailer doesn’t slide off the back , here’s how you close couple, double and triple check hand brake and everything else when you couple/uncouple. It is ridiculous now with about 8 years experience under my belt and running a transport company of my own that I then have to do a driver cpc and pay for my drivers to do it. Will probably wait till 2014 to do it and see if I can still be arsed with it all.

A sort of mix between NVQ and CPC - maybe a new name - A&T (Assessment & Training)
It would still be compulsory and if they can set up the current CPC then this should not present a problem.
Many, if not most, drivers would still have to pay but if there is going to be a compulsory thing then make it relevant and realistic.
If, after an assesment, a driver is ok then no relevant training required.

Judging by some of the questions and false information that gets posted on these boards (especially about drivers hours) most of us need to have some training every so often.
There’s a Petition here for all those that are interested and for all its worth
petitions.number10.gov.uk/cpctraining/
It is not only the CPC ,I can not see the point of the silly WTD why not have one set of hours built into tacho hours law. Then there is the old chestnut why are foreign countries still allowed free use of our roads when the country is broke

If the garages in my area are anything to go by, the recession has been a good thing. They’re booking more than a week ahead now as more people now fix their cars than just trading in.

I agree with it from personal experience of coming across many many drivers who are quite simply, incompetent and that does include old timers who rag the nuts off wagons like they’re still driving some 1950’s donk. And the numerous WRONG posts in here about tacho regs from experienced drivers merely backs up the need for the CPC.
It isn’t demeaning the skills of professional drivers because, being honest, a very large percentage don’t actually have any other than being able to drive forward without hitting anything and even that’s a challenge for some.
if you hold your cpc national and international do you still have to take the drivers cpc? i hear different rules from different people.
Yes you do
Conor:

Conor, you are actually one of them. I know i shouldn’t bring someone else into this but, hey , if we’re going to be frank here then lets be frank, Coffeholic has had to tell you that you where wrong many a time, and also said you should get your money back for the tacho course you went on As i have.
The point i am trying to make here is not who is wrong or right over some of the subjects that have been raised in the past, but how complicated some actually are, irrespective of if anyone has a CPC under thier belt or not. You seem to be detached from it, its all everyone else that needs to do it and not you. I know you didn;t say that, but thats the way you come across.
How about we don’t need a CPC, how about we just need some basic simple rules that any fool can follow if we’re all so thick?
