I’m heading down to Battersea on Monday (Jewsons on Lombard road) and usually do Lambeth or old Kent road via A4 and through the city over Vauxhall bridge but I really can’t be bothered with that so thinking of going in up the A3 (then A217 & A3205).
Any London regulars on here have an opinion on my plan?
I’m running at 14’9" and can’t see any problems on that route, and I don’t mind it taking a little bit longer but don’t want to go that way and head into a massive traffic jam, I’m just thinking it may be a more relaxed trip that dealing with all the knob jockeys in the city.

I live near the A3 and there are plenty of knob jockeys along there too, as well as extra M25 traffic - Wisley is often horribly congested as is the M3 and Chertsey junctions. The A3 is often very slow coming up to the Hook underpass where the 3-lane stretch ends, as well as West Hill (the single carriageway bit into Wandsworth). That said - fewer of the money boxes, invasive bus lanes and other artificial hazards of inner London driving.

You forgot that abortion of the 3 lanes in to 1 called tibbets corner
just before the hospital

That’s where West Hill (which I did mention) starts. Yes, major bottleneck and more so since they stopped directing traffic for the M4 through Putney.

Ironically the whole road from/to at least Guildford is turning into one to be avoided wherever possible let alone anywhere north of the Hook underpass.Mostly because of traffic that would previously have used the A 40,M4,and now the M3 routes into and out of London all now deciding that the A3 is a better option.
In large part to miss all the historic bad planning and now over regulation and resulting slow traffic and jams on those other routes into and out of London.
To the point where the link roads leading to it and away from it like New Malden/Kingston/Tolworth/Ace of Spades can now be a traffic clogged nightmare in either or both directions.Of either traffic trying to get to it and/or get off it.
It’s all a bit sad for anyone who can remember the days before the Hindhead tunnel and M3 ‘traffic calming’ and the A3 got ‘discovered’ by all those who usually used those other routes and when it was all NSL as far as Robin Hood roundabout and what was,and was considered long after as,London’s original ( proper ) boundary. When,at that point in time, its superior planning in the form of the Kingston By Pass and its traffic levels to from that boundary easily cancelled out the downsides of all the bottle necks and typical London aggro past Putney Vale.
