Barefoot

Strange how different things suit different people. I find driving long distances even in shoes uncomfortable and always use wooden soled clogs for any journey over 1 hour. I prefer not to have the pedals boring a hole in my foot. :unamused:
When I lived in Oz I worked with a bloke who was fresh out of hospital because of a serious accident caused by the thong (flip flop) he was wearing getting caught round the pedals. He added it was a good job that the police hadn’t realised because wearing such footwear while driving was illegal.
To get back to Europe I have been told that driving with backless shoes of any kind is illegal, but I don’t know one way or the other.

Ive always wanted to try clogs apparently they are very comfortable, i just need to find a couple of trees big enough!!!

I have driven many miles in clogs and even scampered up the back of a lift tank for many years, probably the reason that hard hats have to be worn in a chemical site as many have fallen off and hit the operator on his head

I recently discovered that pink crocks can make health and safety gestapo splutter as you walk across the tarmac :stuck_out_tongue:

I would say yes as you would noy have full control of the vehicle and all

How the hell would not wearing shoes mean you weren’t in control? I don’t think he is planning on steering it with his bare feet. :unamused: :unamused:

Wonder how long before someone posts mentioning backless shoes and heel straps  :stuck_out_tongue:

hi Coffeeholic when you drive without shoes on the presuser you use to press brake pedal will be diffrent than that of shoes
when you drive with shoes on there are heavy and therefore give you help to prees the pedal down try without and the control you have will feel diffrent therefore not in full control

So a heavy pair of rigger boots caked in clay will give you more control than a light pair of trainers?

delboytwo:
I would say yes as you would noy have full control of the vehicle and all so I would think the insures would not pay out if you had an accident to your feet as you were not whereing shoes under heath & safety

Really■■? Can you back that up with facts??

Sorry pal nothing personal but you are talking out of your arse.

You show me the proof and i’ll gladly retract my statement…

You dont need proof that he is talkin outa his arris…

Ive driven many times without shoes…and i’ll tell ya, if there is an emergency you “will” be in full control…shoes or no shoes!!

i wouldnt see a problem with that aslong as u had appropriate footwear to put on.

i hate driving in steelies, i can touch 2 pedals with just one foot in some lorries, i prefer to wear trainers when driving but most of the time i cant do that. i used to drive a foden 3000 which had nice big footpedals and never had a problem when i had steelies on.

this is what i have noticed when driveing without shoes on every driver as a diffrent epinon on this

what about you companys ppe ploicy if you are provided with boot for you job you must use them if you don’t you will make it easy for you employer to not pay if in an accident as you were given them did not were them
when i worked for a company there said that if i did not wear my ppe i would not be coverd

also when taking you driving test it says wear comtfull shoes

It is NOT illegal to drive barefoot.

It has been proven that driving in high heels gives less control - I think this was done at the MIRA testing place.

You can drive in the nice fluffy slippers with the bells on the end if you want :exclamation:

As long as the driver has proper control there is no problem with anything.

H&S is a load of nonsense, it is fine to drive bare foot, u aint gonna get anything heavy dropping on ur foot when driving

What if you coup your flask…!!!

Well I used to find it ripped hell out of the feet of my stockings. Another gripe was, no vanity mirror on the offside.

Gotta admit boys…

I had a really uncomfy pair of shoes the other week and when I got back to the car having walked about town all day I took them off to give me feet a break, so drove home barefoot.

It felt very funny, and not very nice - felt like I was braking really sharply, and was just generally a bit weird…give me rigger boots any day. Am sure if you drove in barefeet all the time you’d get used to it, but I wouldn’t do it through choice… Also wasn’t convinced about the grip I had when clutch was down.

I find it harder to drive in stilletos than barefoot…

Seriously though, give me stilettos any day…doesn’t do the heels any good though :frowning:

Oh no…wrong forum

mt dutch mate used to (and probablys till does) wear full on dutch clogs for stripping tilts and wandering about, not illegal, but he did look a bit of a ■■■!!

on the health, not safety side, my chiropodist said that if driving long periods barefoot, there is an increased chance of foot problems as the continuous pressure on the ball of the foot can cause circulation issues.

Just get a pair of crocs…job done.

Its just a pain putting the steelies on at every drop. Mmmm I think the rigger boots might have to come out of retirement. slip on slip off

I got stopped on the MI by plod whilst driving without shoes, they were on the engine cover, plod never commented on fact that i was driving barefoot, untill he suggested that i put my shoes on to take a look at trailer rear lights.

Maybe for the first few minutes the pedals feel strange but you soon adapt to the feel.

Not a good idea if it is raining and you are on multi-drop :open_mouth:

Rubbish, you may have to act differently to control the vehicle but you will still be in control. It requires a different amount of effort on the brake pedal of the car I drive to work and the truck I drive while I am there, so according to your theory I am in control of one but not the other, or possibly in control of neither. Same applies if I wear different footwear to drive the car on different occasions, something that can happen on the same day within a short time, does that mean on some days I am in control and some days not because I am wearing different shoes?

That’s disturbing, I now have a vision of you driving that hairdressers car of yours wearing the aforementioned footwear. :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth:  :stuck_out_tongue:
