Banking training hours

This is a quote from the jaupt website:

Banking Training Hours

Are you aware that drivers cannot bank Periodic Training hours to use in future cycles i.e. five year periods?

Professional LGV and PCV drivers must complete 35 hours of Periodic Training every five years following their acquired rights or Initial CPC Qualification.Periodic Training can be carried out at any time within the 5 year period however if a driver decides to complete further Periodic Training once the 35 hours have been completed this training cannot be “banked” and used against the next five year period.

So, If you complete 35 hours of training in the last week of August 2014. You can’t do any training for 5 years that will count towards your next Dcpc?
You could end up driving illegally, As you have to wait until your fives years is up.
It should allow you to do your training after 4 years, That’ll give you 12 months to get it sorted out.

I could have read it wrong, But that’s the way it looks to me.
Just as well i can’t be arsed with it.

you have read it wrong, if you have grandfather rights and have completed you training you get your card but it will not start till September, so until it comes into force you can’t bank any hours, once September comes you can start your next 35 hrs, :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

That’s exactly what you did Limey.

It’s quite simple really - once you’ve completed your 35 hours training (before September 2014) you will receive your DCPC card. Over the next 5 years you can start accumulating 35 hours to get your DCPC automatically renewed at the end of the 5 year period (2019). There isn’t any point in doing more than 35 hours in any one 5 year period 'cos as JAUPT says you can’t “bank” it i.e. roll it over into the next 5 year period.

So you do 35 hours in August 2014, You’re ok for the next 5 years until September 2019.
But the way it reads, You can’t do any more training in that 5 year period.
As it says:

this training cannot be “banked” and used against the next five year period.

They need to change the wording.

Yep, the way I think of it is that existing drivers have ‘5-year windows’ that open & close. So when our 1st window opened in Sept.2009 we have to complete (a minimum of) 35 hours DCPC training before the window closes in Sept.2014.
Which of course is the same date that the 2nd window opens & 5 year clock starts ticking again. Any training completed over & above the 35 hours will be recorded but not count towards your next window. Anyone who has looked at their on-line training record will see some reference to these modules taken over & above 35 hours - I’ll have a look as to what they’re referred to by - can’t remember!!!

Here’s a summary box from the on-line checking system with the module codes (with my comments in brackets):

Valid - this training is valid and may count towards a future Driver CPC qualification. (If you have less than 35 hours recorded)

Used - this training has been included in your current Driver CPC qualification.
(When you reach 35 hours & your current DQC card is issued)

Expired - this training is no longer valid as it was completed more than 5 years ago.

Under investigation — this means that the training entered has yet to be validated by DSA

Invalid - this training is not valid and does not count towards your qualification. This is likely to be as a result of completing more than 35 hours training in the five year period.
(Invalid - this is the one!!)
Cancelled - this is training which has been cancelled and does not count towards your qualification.

Since training counts towards both bus and lorry entitlement and since the date for bus was September 2013, then for those with a bus licence the period reset after September 2013. It should follow therefore that after that date (Sept 13) the 35 hours can be completed whenever the driver wishes as long as it is before (in my case) 09/09/2019. This would mean that all 35 hours could be completed before sept 2014 and be valid for HGV and PSV.

I think you could be right, but don’t bus drivers get 6 years after there first dcq if under grandfather rights, as the powers to be want them all to fall in line in 2019?, I could well be wrong it was just something I vaguely remember being told, hopefully a bus driver will come along in a minute and put me right if that is wrong

Does this apply to initial CPC too ? I was under the impression your initial CPC gets you 5 year expiry, but if you do another 35 hours you could top it up to 10 years.

E.g. Get intial CPC in 2014, expires 2019… do another 35 hours in between, expiry gets extended to 2024. No ? or does it just mean it stays at 2019, but come expiry it’d be auto-renewed to 2024 as you’ve done the required 35 hours ?
