Ban 15 hour working days

Conor:
No mate, it isn’t - you’re just under the illusion that it is. You’ve already been conditioned to sub-consciously want to run the most you can as your first choice shows. Not having a go, most of us are the same. Over the years we’ve mostly all got conditioned so that our natural behaviour in the job is to want to do as much as possible and put getting the load there above everything else.

Which is a mindset that union membership and/or sympathies generally removed. On that note a return to a slightly tweaked domestic regs would be the way to go.The surprising thing being the deafening silence from the unions in that regard.Probably because they are crippled by Labour’s pro EU agenda. :unamused: :bulb:

Quite simple question really, I love big days, the bigger the better and even better if its a big pay Sunday. As I am paid hourly, plus overtime after 8 hours, I can earn my weeks money in three days and take the rest of the week off to go and play with my toys.

Rgds

Do you mean 15 hours sat on your ■■■?

You poor darling. “they” expect you to get off your ■■■ and do a bit of work.
Thats why you get paid less than a burger flipper at macdonalds

They at least work for their money unlike yourself.

Reminds me, I need a new set of ■■■■ beads, the last lot broke due to getting trapped after an unexpected cough and I had to send the ferret in.

that old cliche again.
Why dont you go work for them then instead of constantly banging on about how crap the HGV industry is to work for and how fantastic the wages are for Mcdonalds.
(BTW, “burger flippers” are on around £5.89. As poor as hgv wages are,ive never seen any that low.)

I’m not agreeing with him but interests of clarity national wage for over 21 is £6.70. Plenty of Arctic jobs in lincs paying pence more that or less on some day rates. Not saying work for them of course but there are LGV jobs out there at minimum wage.

They’ll be getting a hell of a pay rise in April when the National Minimum Wage comes in. £7.20/hr, they won’t know what to do with all the money.

A few decent paying companies in the area but you need to know where to look. An awful lot of low paid dross though.

Yes the wages might not be much better than this for driving class 1 but given a choice of driving a £60K vehicle around the country all day listening to the radio or wearing an ill fitting brown and yellow uniform and serving happy meals and dealing with screaming kids and moaning customers every shift I know which id pick.
Ive wanted to drive artics since I was 5 and now due to personal reasons ive had to stop after only having had my license for a few years and id LOVE to get back driving again but I dont know when that will be. And almost every day on here it is the usual suspects whinging, moaning, complaining and whining about almost everything to do with the job. And the wage threads are the worst with the old “mcdonalds or tesco pay better” chestnuts. If its so good, and the hgv industry is so bad, I dont know why they dont all go work for them and leave the haulage game to those that want it

As nice as reading your emotional attachment to the work you’re wasting it on the wrong person. I wasn’t advocating anything at all, other than pointing out that there are in fact LGV jobs at minimum wage in abundance in poorer paying parts. Ive a well paid job I enjoy but I consider myself fortunate in the area.

Fair enough. My main point however was about the amount of moaning that goes on. It was the same when I worked for First bus. The canteen was filled with guys all moaning non stop and going on about other better jobs but none of them ever left.
Ive come to the conclusion that some people stay in jobs they hate purely so they can moan about it!

no need to BAN jut dont take a job which involve them :exclamation: :exclamation: :exclamation: :exclamation: :exclamation:

Jeeezs some of that stuff would make your eyes water, not to mention play havoc with your farmers.
I see you have the Officiall standard issue, multi purpose WPC’ s truncheon there as well, that lethal looking black thing with the finger grip grab handle

Or just grow a set if balls and say nah I’m taking 11 hrs off tonight

Starting work at 6am and finishing at 9pm driving a vehicle is wrong. Lets cut all the crap about yeah but your sleeping for most of that. The simple fact is you are at work for that amount of time and could still be driving at 8pm - 9pm is wrong on many many levels

Hey Snowman sorry to hear about your present situation, hope you are able to get back to driving soon anyway.

Just to answer your point. There are a lot of moaners on here I’m one of em
.Maybe a lot is to do with how long you have done the job, those that have been at it a while have sat back and watched how it has changed over the years. Ok some improvements such as better trucks, but the over regulated bs it has became to date, bears no resemblance to the job that once, like you, attracted me.
Crap conditions like parking, ridiculous h&s, crap driving among HGV drivers, timed deliveries with little moving space, cab phones, ■■■■■■ trackers, rdc.s, Vosa, pedantic finable offences and the list goes on.
Ok it’s progress, that does not mean to say it’ s an improvement

So spare a thought for the…veterans :unamused:  that moan.
The old crack, (mostly from young boys that have done the job for a whole 5 minutes :unamused: )…‘well if you don’t like the job …off’ makes me think …why the ■■■■ should I let all those arse holes beat me… into jacking a job that I used to love, so ■■■■■■■■ to them I’m sticking it out whatever. And so the moaning goes on

By your own admission you say you have not been it it very long, so maybe not long enough to get into the moaning stage, that is what I was getting at.

Lol.
You and plenty others on here come across as guys who moans about the job and the way its “progressed” but still enjoy it and thats fine. A bit of moaning about the bad parts of a job is fine.
I was actually meaning the ■■■■■■■■ whingers (and we all know who they are) who come on here and come across as guys who literally HATE the job and most of them actually say they hate and despise everythnig about it. And with these wage threads the old “mcdonalds pay better” comment always appears somewhere. All I was meaning was if someone hates it so much and thinks McDs is so much better, they could go work there instead.
Yes the wages are poor esp when you consider the license costs upwards of £2.5K to get but the same guys who moan the loudest about the wages are also the most vocal in arguing all day about the job being so easy a trained monkey can do it and its been so dumbed down anyone can do the job. Even if this where true, when you have guys spouting this, and getting all apoplectic and furious whenever someone tries to talk the job up a bit, then why would anyone who makes the wage structure of a company think anything more than minimum wage is justified?
I wasnt meaning everyone who moans should go work somewhere else and I apologise to Robroy and anyone else who got caught up in my (in hindsight} scattergun comment. Without positive moaners, companies will rip the ■■■■ more and more. Positive moaning is a neccessitiy.
It was aimed at the true haters of the job and I cant understand why ,if they hate it so much, they still do it. After all, as they keep telling us, Tesco pays better to stack shelves and is better than driving an HGV

This isn’t aimed particularly at people on here, but many keep doing it because they are mostly stuck doing it. They might only be on £8 odd ph, but work daft amount of hours, sleep in cabs and/or work ■■■■ shift patterns to top it up to a level they simply couldn’t achieve in these supermarket & fast food gigs, we are seemingly mad not all to be doing instead. Lidl now pay £8.20, but multiplied by 20-30 hours it’s peanuts.

Want to earn a truck drivers take home pay elsewhere for less hours? Get ready to fork out for education and/or spend time taking a serious cut in income learning a trade from the bottom up. Many just don’t have the money/time in life/drive/gumption/social skills to do so. Just look at some of the dregs stumbling out of lorries at the services, chances are a fair amount are probably banking £400+, maybe a lot more at the end of the week with all the hours, they’d probably never do it anywhere else.
