hi all strong blustery gales expected tomorrow, friday . Advice on best way to tackle it driving a double decker thankyou.
If you think it’s to windy, don’t take it out, your the captain.
Hold on tight.
Seriously, it tends to be the gusts that catch you more than sustain wind. Watch the trees, they give you a good indication whats happening.

The wind affects most when it’s broadside on. So just keep her nose heading into the wind and all will be fine.

Do 54 instead of 56.
Then watch all the EE guys giving you the stink eye as they pass you for not being on the limiter.
Take some spare underwear just in case you need them. Seriously though be sensible with your speed and as mentioned watch the trees and other wagons as they’re a good indicator of strong gusts and basically if you’re not happy park her up pointless being the bravest man in the churchyard.
Make sure the curtains are as tight as possible, stops them ballooning in. Slow down a bit, especially in open areas. No sudden direction changes. If you can, check that any load fills the bottom deck before the top deck. Incidentally I’ve found that double deckers with the smaller wheels seem to be less susceptible to cross-winds, probably because they are lower to the ground.

Strap anything over 400kg with lots of internals and for IBCs, sacks etc use proper straps as those are most likely to move if you get blown around. You dont want any extra movement to drag over the trailer and a couple of IBCs will do that brilliantly.
Slow down to 50 as it gives you a little more time, plus you get a heads-up from the idiots flat to the mat passing you who start to wobble in their DDs.
Put your straps etc away not in the footwell as you really dont want those heading for your head if you are unlucky.
Select your roads carefully and take note of road closures for high vehicles. Up here I’d try not to use the A66, Woodhead Pass or similar high roads. Office moght moan but they’ll moan more if you dont get there or kill someone.
You might be more likely to get blown off the roads than turn over which could hurt more.
The advice above is good. I been driving them all this year and its not always nice but not gone over, yet. It makes it more interesting.
