Bad Weather in Central Europe

A week of heavy rains raised levels of rivers in the region and many burst their banks.
Apart from flooded buildings there are also flooded roads and roads blocked by fallen trees; some places are without electricity.
The worst affected areas are in the east of Slovakia (Humenne, Trebisov), west- (Myjava) and north-west of Slovakia (Cadca), south-east of Poland, north-east of Hungary and north-east of Czech rep (Ostrava, Trinec, Val. Mezirici, Karvina is only accessible from Poland).
HU-SK border crossings at Milhost and Slov. Nove Mesto are closed. Ferry between Zahorska Ves and Angern (Austria) is out of order and the bridge at Mor. Svaty Jan / Hohenau is closed.

If you are heading / sending somebody there check for conditions and details.

Yeah, just seen in Polish news that National 4 is closed somewhere near Tarnów (it’s a continuation of A4 motorway). Also severel trunk roads near Bielsko BiaÅ‚a, Tychy, Cieszyn etc.

Disturbing pictures,Orys, I hope your family, and all other families will be OK.What about the salt mines in Wieliczka, and Zakopane-do you have any information?

In Mountains there ususally is no flood, as water just goes to quick through, although there can be some damages.

As for Wieliczka - it’s propably safe:

Mines are there for centuries, they saw much bigger ones… If there will be somehthing happen to them, I am sure that I would hear about that in the news.

Good news from my family though: last time I spoke with them, water stopped 100m from their doorstep, now I see that water level goes down, so (let’s hope) they are safe. But it can be a problem in the basement anyway.

Just a reminder, check the situation before you go/arrive. In general the situation is “OK” (safe to go), just that there are many places where people may simply be too busy with something else or not working at all due to some secondary effects.
E.g. industrial estate in Vrable is flooded, Peugeot-Citroen plant in Trnava stopped production over parts shortage.
The weather is still crap, it’s been raining for more than two weeks nearly non-stop. Some places have had second wave of floods, state of emergency is still in place at others. The floods tend to be local, biiger ones are receding, clearup works going on, the soil is soaked so there is increasing number of small mudslides, fallen trees, roadsides giving up under heavy vehicles…

Still some local closures in South-East Poland, it changes from minute to minute…

…and it’s now affecting major roads too: SK-HU border crossings at Milhost-Tornyosnemeti, Kral-Banreve and Slov. Nove Mesto - Satoraljaujhely are now closed. Some fording is required at Sahy. Siatorska Bukovinka is still OK.
Landslides are now also blocking some A roads (67, 18…)

Yesterday DK 4 somewhere east from Brzesko was closed…
