Bad day on the roads?

is it just me or is today one of the worst days for pile ups or some one getting killed?
5.20 am plod have rolling block on M25,tip load at 6,then sit for 3hrs on A20 with whats looks like a bike, smashed to bits up against a car sideways on london bound carriage, also A224 blocked,M20,M11,then M25 heathrow on way home, then M27 to yard.

dont know what happened to the biker or driver, but it did not look as if they survived it?

more fog same route tomorrow?

mark

it was bad with fog from the midlands all the way down to North London, i saw a few smacks on the M6,M1 & M25 today cause of the fog & probably speeders

Its always the same before Xmas. People are in a hurry ,thinking of all the things they have to do & how to get there. It was always a sad time on the Autobahns at this time of year. Often I would see the hearse in attendance to an accident with only one car involved on a clear straight stretch of road . Xmas is a very stressful time for a lot of car drivers. Truckers cope better ,they are used to tight deadlines…

M62 was shut both ways earlier this morning too dont know what happened though had to come off at j24 and take tha A640 back to M62 j21. Now thats a great road for driving not just sat on the limiter. Guess the older drivers used it many moons ago before the 62 was built.

it took me nearly 2 1/2 hrs to cross the streach of the woodhead yesturday from Flouch to mottram

Driving round the yard at 10 mph shunting is hellish this week
Glad i’m not down the road this week .

I always used to be envious of the guys driving the tractors in the fields.

like me today lol it was fun xmas no work no box to take out to cold for the horses . next year back on the road from here to scotland .

The government say set off early, take your time, unfortunately I work for DHL and I MUST not start before the time they say!! naughty naughty someone will have to update the computer with driver start times and thats just far too much trouble than a driver setting off an hour earlier to avoid the jams.

I love this weather and hope it stay around for many days to come, although they are only forecasting another couple of days at the moment. :frowning: :frowning:

Absolute evil nightmare on the roads at the moment, the M1 south of Luton through roadwaorks and the M25 is pure bloody warfare.

How does fog cause accidents?

You can see it’s foggy. I can see it’s foggy. Everybody can see it’s foggy.

It isn’t the fog that causes the accidents. It’s drivers not driving to suit the conditions that causes accidents.

Gotta agree with that. For me, fog has all the air of peace and mystery of snow, without any of the slushy aftermath. Even better with freezing fog - they’ve had that on and off all week around Thirsk, with the result that the whole area is an ice-filled winter wonderland. Truly stunning.

yeah isaw it this morning
fantastic

Taunton vanished into the fog earlier this week

I thought it was worth a photo

It was Denis.

I always used to enjoy running back through Honiton of a morning when I was on New Look - exactly the same “above the clouds” effect shown above. Another thing of great beauty which I would never have witnessed had I been stuck in an office. There are hundreds of such examples.

See, there is a reason why I keep doing this poxy job! :sunglasses:

From 3am to 8am I did M6, M1, M25 and A12 Bham to Colchester. I saw loads of fog but no accidents. Only saw 2 HATO units, no police, fire or ambulance units and lots vehicles overtaking me at silly speeds.

Despite the fog I could stay at 60-70 as it was thin enough to see without glaring fog lights on, but still people raced past me in the outside lane.

I did remember to keep the braking distance in front of me. Seemed OK until I reached Colchester, Mersea, where I found that the front end, mirrors, mirror arms and forward boom sections were encrusted with ice :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

Then I got out the cab and promptly fell over on the ice

it was a bad day for this lady

spoke to the guy in the garage down the road from it last night and he said it was closed until 2am and he said it was a elderly couple who missed there turn and that the old dear got out because she seen a gap in the road and got out to have a look and wondered off into the carridgeway in front of a car :open_mouth:

why do folk do that , if you miss your turn go on to the next and come back… dont try to squeeze through a gap or reverse up the road

condolences to all involved

been working today, fog as thick as a notts miner, and the majority of cars driving without lights.couldnt get my breath.

Well the fog (or the way pillocks behave in it Simon) took its toll south of Bordeaux yesterday. A massive pile-up on the A63 at Cestas involving between 60 and 200 :open_mouth: cars (depending which report you were watching, maybe the mess was so total it was difficult to count). I saw the pictures on the TV and it looked like a scrap yard. And as far as I could see, no wagons  .
Will check back if I can correct any of the above info.
