Bad 1st experience returning to 7.5 tonne driving

So the bedding company I did a day’s work for (Do I name and shame ?). I’ve already posted about it in another thread.
I refused to drive one of their vehicles on Friday at 5.30am because it failed the defect report on its Air Brakes.
They have confirmed they are not going to pay me for my 12 hours work I did on the Tuesday, apparently it was just a “trial” so I asked them why they had asked me to complete a timesheet, maybe because they thought you were going to continue working for them say’s the secretary, so it wasn’t a trial if I had carried on working for them but was just a trial if I refuse to drive their vehicles, I ask, she say’s she doesn’t know but they would like there £20 sub back I had had to get, I laugh so much I accidently hang up the phone.
This is my advice;
Do not even bother going for the 7.5 Tonne driver job at £6.70 / hour The vehicles do not appear to be properly maintained and some are downright dangerous (Air Brake and Airbag faults) They expect drivers to average 50 hours a week. It is mostly single handedly handballing large beds and mattereses into residential houses and flats. They won’t pay you for any work previously done if you refuse to drive one of there vehicles on safety grounds.
The whole thing has been a terrible experience for my first job back at driving, especially having just completed my CPC I think I expected company’s to be as professional as the drivers are supposed to be. :frowning:

If a company did that to me, I would be contacting VOSA (anonymously) about the state of the vehicles they are wanting me to drive on the highway, and tell them everything that is getting done that shouldn’t be done(like working when on break).

Name and shame them so we other 7.5 ton lads don’t get caught, Area and just miss out 1 or 2 letters in the company’s name.

1 - Yes name and shame so others can avoid

2 - When they say they ‘confirmed’ not going to pay, how? Verbally or in writing

When you did a days work for them and then missed a few days till the friday incident is it through agency?

Did you keep a copy of time sheet seeing as a ‘trial’?

I’d invoice and make sure it was signed for on delivery to the company then you’ve start of recourse with them.

Sounds very dodgy all round but good on you for standing ground

What did you do for the 12 hours you were there ? Did you go out in another vehicle ? How old were the vehicles ?
As others have said, name and shame.
