offering just £8 per hour standard day rate for class one work, driving for fowler - welch on tesco work .
i asked how could anybody make a living, having to drive 30miles round trip to work on such a low rate, bloke got arsey when i told them to find someone else because i would not be doing it ,
lousy rate, lousy agency, all in my opinion of course.

They must have put their hourly rate up unfortunately someone will
£8 ph and he got arsey? More ■■■■■■ neck than a giraffe!
Needs a few more thousand to tell em no.
Trouble is there’ll be hundreds more flip flops soon.
So how much would you do Class one work for?
good money for south lincs area

in genral £10 standard hourly day rate [or more depending on the type of work ,generally adr work] is what other agencies who i work for offer ,however i also do direct work for £12 self employed.
more than that it is the “you should be gratefull for the work at any rate attitude” that realy grates with me.
in this job i always deliver a good days work with no pratting about and in return should be able expect a wage that reflects the cost of a modest standard of living ,nothing more nothing less.
I’ve noticed this recently I’ve only worked where I work now I’m paid well but have been here 8 years and am treated like family, and made to work for it, some days I hate the job
But looking through local papers and Internet I couldn’t afford to leave. The pay rates at the moment are shocking i was asked by a local firms tm a while back to work for them I told him I couldn’t afford the move he offered me £8.27 an hour and said I’d be one off the highest paid so not to tell the others, wtf people double my age driving for longer than I’ve been Alive and that’s how much there paying them no thanks! There’s a thread on here advertising heavy haulage I think the rates £7.50 an hour it’s becoming comical ill stay put at my place for as long as I can i think.
In my part of the country £8 an hour would be considered a fairly good rate for agency work , with below that £7 /£7:50 the norm for most local hauliers etc .

It’s all relevant I suppose I’m from the south house prices etc are pretty expensive my fiancée lived only 90 miles away until she moved down and she thought wages round here were great until she realised a 3 bed house in my area averages a ■■■■ sight more than an identical one would from where she’s from it seems though that the dive in wages over the last few years is pretty widespread I’ve even seen cleaning jobs in my local paper pay more then an advert for class 2 work and only a few pence less than c&e.
I wonder what will happen when the day comes that all those working for loss-making pay start getting arsey themselves?
One would think that the housing benefit cap should have a big effect here - at least when the whole plan is rolled out properly, rather than in just a few experimental areas…
Imagine a bunch of surly slavs bursting into the transport office with "You geef us £20ph from now on, or we take Balkan-style industrial action yes?"
Que “guys standing in background, one rubbing a knife up and down a strop, the other carrying a fuel can and some rags”…
There will come a time where the older generation of truck drivers retire, leaving space for fresh blood, but with such low rates of pay the number of new drivers will be much lower than demand.
Who’s gonna want to spend £3k+ to get Cat C&E licences for £7/hour work.
No one.

Don’t think many of the people going into their tests are actually properly aware of the wage situation. They are just pursueing “the dream” which has been more than likely fuelled by the likes of Trucks & Trailers and IRT etc. painting a pretty picture.
So they will spend their £3K, start looking at jobs and then the situation dawns on them and they are forced into taking the £7ph jobs. Otherwise, they have no experience and no hope of moving onto better things. The crooks and agencies paying garbage wages are usually the only way into the industry for the vast wave of new drivers we have these days and they know it.

Without full time jobs, you can’t get into the industry under 25 because I’ve yet to hear of an agency that’ll fancy stomping up for the insurance involved.
As a young newbie, you might take the £7ph job whilst you’re still 21 and living with your mum, but what happens when you’ve got a girlfriend/wife up the duff and you want a place of your own maybe by the time you turn 30?
Not everyone has a “Bank of Mum & Dad”. More likely, this couple (if they ever became a couple) get to live with Mum until they’re drawing pensions themselves. With the lack of new company pensions, they might not even get that.
Perhaps the truck drivers of the future will seek to marry women with top jobs, and become “Kept Men”.
"Hiya. I’m Dave. I’m my QC Brown’s live-in whoreman"…
You are lucky to have been offered £8.00. I have been on their books for 4 weeks now, and not had a single call.

and yet they still continue to advertise jobs on the uk.gov website for full time drivers sometimes asking for as many as 15 full time people. just recently they were quoting £13.50 an hour for some weekend shifts, ive never been paid that by them regardless of when i have worked at the weekend .
says it all really
good luck in finding work.
regards tz
i called a local haulage company asking if they need any drivers on a daily, when needed basis ,they said yes come up do a driving assessment, ended up picking up a load of carrots from a field two feet deep in crap ,then the driver who was assessing me said do you know what the money is for days ,no ,driving a class one ,£6,■■ cant remember what the odds were but £6 something i said how long have you been with them he said 10 years ■■? why do experienced drivers work for so small a wage ,i could see the point if they had just passed there test and would take anything ,stobarts starting rate last year £7.20 for the first year not sure if its still the same might have gone down ?
Changes to the better won’t really start coming about until those in control start losing out because the system doesn’t work without the raft of previously available benefits.
Even the introduction of “married allowances” spoken of might take so many drivers out of tax altogether, that no one wants to be “self-employed” anymore, because they’ll pay no tax PAYE anyway.
Longer term, this means the government have lost an entire raft of revenues and are paying out a whole bank of extra benefits. In the fullness of time, one might even see the driver of the future be the ONLY profession getting handouts. - IF this race to the bottom is not stopped in time for the end of the recession.
Like has been said, it’s not the rates offered that grinds as that’s market forces but it’s the you should be grateful for the job attitude. I appreciate it’s not rocket science and anyone with half a brain can do it but if you make a mistake doing this work you can kill loads of people and cause millions of pounds worth of damage, cheers for the £8 per hour.
