Back to the good old days

is traffic abroad picking up, i know it will never get back to what it was, mainly all brits on ferries and a few foreigners.

we are flat out at the moment with steel to germany but to be fair they are the biggest economy in the EU.
i have noticed a lot more UK trucks though over this side of the water over the last month or two

I’m sure I saw one of Pollock’s parked up at the Resser Mark services (near the Schalke football ground)
when I was passing last week.

Never seen them ower t’water before.

Would have (not of  ) been about 1ish last Tuesday afternoon.

I don’t drive a Merc anymore. Got a shiny new TGX, which is the mutt’s undercarriage. There’s thousands in Germany

I’m a bit loath to do that as its got our biggest customer’s name plastered all over it and I don’t want to ruffle any conservative German feathers

I’m supposed to be loading for the UK Wednesday dinner time so will be cruising down the A2 to Kreuz Oberhausen, before picking up the A3 towards Holland, sometime on Wednesday afternoon.

Going back to the OP from a different angle. This Euro board seems to have gone very quiet lately. Is it because work’s on the up,and people are too busy,or because even less of us are over the water ?

if you notice its the same few of us who are regular on here and a small problem i’ve noticed is a couple of the members who post about trips or questions about europe seem to post on the UK pro drivers forum and it stays there.
on the OP angle i’ve seen quite a few UK trucks this week including meeting an absolute gentleman from C&H Tilbury in Vivonne on thurs nite, nice chat and meal just what its all about really

We’re doing very little continental work now, one or two a month between six trucks, the rest are on UK work. We get undercut by up to 50% on almost all work we quote on and now only ever do very specialised work, mostly exhibitions, where reliability is more important to the customer than cost.

If I went to Barcelona tomorrow, I doubt I would see much more than a dozen British trucks all week.

got back in this morning from tipping guadalaja on wednesday and reloading out of mequinenza thursday morning and i must admit i was amazed at the amount of brit motors i seen this week. seen a few regular sights ie davies, mortimers, stobarts, conti express etc. but also alot of companies i never seen before. maybe small operators looking futher a field for work if things not so good on uk?

good to see some fellow brits having ago out there.

Is it because we are cheaper at the moment , £ V € V $, every little bit helps according to those in the know :open_mouth:

  • PL,CZ,H,LT,LV,RUS,SK, ect., are getting wiser on the money front, and, they want more ■■?

Yes,WBIS,I had noticed that it’s the same few.(been lurking for a while).Perhaps someone could move the Euro posts onto here?

Stanley Mitchell makes a good point about exchange rates, and the Osties wising up.

Yes, we will get work back as eastern European operators face increased charges themselves. Wages in Poland have been increasing by around 10% per annum for several years now, land costs are increasing etc

I’ve been thinking for a while that there might be an opportunity here. If you had your costs in sterling and were earning euro’s it could be a bit of a winner until sterling recovers. Just got back from a couple of months in spain, and other than fuel i would say the cost of living is now a good bit cheaper in the uk than france or spain.

I’ve also noticed C&H are getting about, saw two of them this morning on the A40 Venlo>Duisburg with what looked like ex-Ferrymasters trailers.

I think the Aylesford work was being done by that firm, who’s name escapes me,with the black Scania Topliners, maybe an Irish sounding name. But,I haven’t seen them about for ages,so C&H must have it now.

Do you mean Kelly International? they based in Kent and they got some megaspace & topline trucks with megaliner trailers - full black livery?
