Are launching a budget room. It would be something I’d consider if I was doing nights out. As it stands, if you have a room overnight in an MSA the truck parking is included in the room rate. If that’s the case with these rooms, what’s not to like?

Wait until their nice neat car parks and grass verges are churned up with the effects of 44 tonnes, I’m sure the scheme will last for all of 2 months.
I’ve got all mod cons and sufficient home comforts in my cab. thanks.
The only ones that it will appeal to are the daymen who turn into pumpkins on an unexpected night out and shudder and slaver at the mere thought of …‘‘sleeping in a tin box/unpaid security guard/carrier bags and wet wipes’’ and all the rest of the ■■■■■■■■ they spout about tramping.

The lorry…
Parks in the truck park where we all currently park.
It’s not a scheme aimed at drivers, it’s designed for anyone who wants no frills budget accomodation.
The origional MSA motels were for lorry drivers to overnight in. As sleeper cabs became more sophisticated and dumbass drivers included night out money as part of their wage, the hotel chains aimed for the business traveller market and never looked back.

To be fair I hated day cabs on night trunking just in terms of the lack of space and it’s quite possible to get stranded out of hours on trunking type work in which case I saw it no differently to using a sleeper on nights out type work.Ironically trunking involving larger distances from base in my case.Having said that I’d guess that maintaining the flexibility of a sleeper cab combined with using hotels, obviously with all the private facilities,on an as and when required and available basis, would be the best of all worlds. The obvious problem being if the guvnors would try to use the obviously flawed non guarantee of being able to find and book a hotel with decent parking,as an excuse to go back to day cabs.

It won’t be free parking for the lorry then!
When I’ve used hotels at services, I’ve not had to pay to park the truck, just told the hotel reception I was in a truck and entered the registration, but then the hotels normally cost far more than £19, nearer £100 for some of them.
I quite like this idea, not just necessarily for truck drivers, but if cheap enough might make a change from the cab for a few, but just for those drivers, both business and personal, who think it’s ok to drive across the country in one hit after being up all day.
Lots of budget hotels in Europe. Many are only staffed at peak times. Arriving out of hours entry is fully automated through your bank card. Ref damages/theft its like returning a hire car out of hours: They have your card details so any damages can be reclaimed by them. Its worked OK for me. Never had spurious claims from against my card.
No parking charges in Euroland normally, so no comment on that.
Darkside:
We currently have the shower head for one depot in the traffic office. Drivers have to return it after the shower.
The previous three were stolen…
Think what could be nicked from a Premier Inn
Can’t have been beyond the wit of man to have just secured the shower head - perhaps using a malleable iron, standpipe-type system like they use in the third world - rather than arsing around with taking a wet shower head back to the clerk each time!
Commercial fittings have to cater to the lowest common denominator in aesthetic and durability.

AND THERE IT IS!!!
The kind of attitude that has got us where we are…
‘It hasn’t been secured so it is ok to nick it’, bit like ‘there wasn’t a sign saying do not throw rubbish on the floor so I thought it was ok’…
I find premier inns are usually spot on with odd truck parked there, i have.a business account with them and i.ll quite often stop in one on a Thursday night if i.ve been out all week, they are usually empty enough midweek to find a corner to stick it in out the way
Uncleskid:
Not all premier inns car parks are big enough to accomadate lorries
I just parked in a travelodge car park with a lorry and trailer so taking up a few car spaces. Drove in the exit and positioned myself to leave out the entrance in the morning as it seems easier then following the signs ha.
That’s quite a bit cheaper than the cheapest of the cheap in France, Formule 1, and they don’t have en suite facilities. (Admittedly it is some years since I used one though), so I think it could be a good thing. But I doubt that it is aimed at lorry drivers (neither is Formule 1) and there will be nothing in the way of free local parking.
And as Harry has said, from £19 is not necessarily £19.
