I remember an article with a bloke from Belgium in a blue FH 6x2 MK1 going to or through Germany and also parking his unit at home. I think it was a different one. Did you do more than one article KW ?
newmercman:
Good pics, i don’t remember the article though so Dreva, come on mate, what’s keeping you!Where is Craig Sheer nowadays? I used to work with him at TRUCK magazine, boy do I miss that title, of course it should’ve been called LORRY, but still the best of all the mags, especially when the content was provided by Craig & I!
Dreva, on that note, Craig & I did an LDD between us, when Daf launched the CF I took one down to Spain & Craig did the return leg, it was in 2001 sometime, I lost my copy in the move to Canada, any chance you could scam, sorry scan that one too please

Yep thats the one…
They took a selection of CF’s down IIRC, got seriously cut up by a Portuguese bloke somewhere near Paris if i remember rightly…
Didnt they empty the water tank for no other reason than it served no purpose being there, and slowed them down a bit!!
Somewhere, i have the copy of that magazine, it was one of the few i kept when i gave a load way…

That’s the one, Craig was taking it back to Holland so they didn’t need it loaded so he drained it out, good thinking that man!
will dig it out and post it up for you mate
Buzzardboy,
The Portugese bloke cut me up on the n10 through the forest south of Bordeaux, blimey you have a good memory!
i do remember taking that CF with the water tank behind it on a ‘handling’ test on a bendy bit in Spain, the poor bloke from Daf was hanging on for dear life, mind you i was giving it some clog!
I was on Dutch TV on that trip, I was the first non Daf employee to drive the new CF & the cameras were out as we pulled out of Eindhoven & they wanted to know what I thought of it, as i was nursing an almighty hangover & had only driven it for 100yds I couldn’t say much so all i got was a quick shot of me pulling out the factory gates.
I miss those days, that was proper 5 star trucking, sleeping in a hotel every night, eating in top resturaunts, drinking lots of beer & wine & getting lots of goodies, I’m still wearing some of the jackets I got now, although they must’ve shrunk as they’re getting a bit tight now
& thanks Dreva

Craig did all the pictures for that story, well we both did them but only his went in the mag, I was suffering from liver abuse & shaking hands & cameras do not mix, Craig did not suffer this ungodly affliction due to being teetotal!
I’m chuckling away to myself remembering the look of pure terror on the Spanish blokes face as I went down the mountain in that tanker like my arse was on fire
newmercman:
KW, send him my regards when you speak to him next, I notice he used to be Craig 111 on this very site but has not been on for sometime, either that or he’s avoiding me!
I wondered that too Mark
I met Craig for a meal at Chez Jo at Hautvillers a couple times then he seemed to disappear off the radar.
I heard that he had split from his wife and returned to Cornwall and at long last I am making the trip to Truro next month to trace ancient relatives and I thought at the beginning of this thread that perhaps we would meet again - then KW tells us that he is back in St. Omer, hopefully with the lovely Valerie again?
So, if you are reading this Craig, or anyone else who wants to chew the fat (and some excellent grub) with an old ■■■■ in Chez Jo on Monday the 1st of December, you know where I’ll be.
And BTW, the old Saxo has been relegated to local work only now and is replaced by a shiny iron grey Berlingo. Still the same tiny caravan though.
