Were you born with a licence and the ability to reverse? I bet they can spell though which is something you can’t do.

Classic!

If you’re not cut out for showing new drivers the ropes, then your boss shouldn’t ask you to do it. I’m not trying to have a pop at you, but it’s no good for you, the new driver or the company. I quite like showing new drivers the ropes, and I think I’m pretty good at it. But that’s me and everyone is different.

Polish, Latvian… when do you get to take the lad from down the road out :open_mouth: or don’t they get a bite at the cherry

And know I can understand why there is so much unemployment in this country

Wow what a b1tch a little light hearted humour not lets jump on me for not spelling correctly.

To answer your question no i was not gifted at birth but i learnt on my own. But these are seasoned so called drivers not passed last week drivers who deserve some slack

How can he be a “seasoned driver” if it’s his first C+E job?

Ok seasoned not the best word both have done agency work before but this is there first proper full time driving job if you no what i mean.

Ah - fair do’s then. Although to be fair, I’ve seen some very experienced drivers get into a right old pickle first time they try reversing one of our 10m trailers with rear-axle steering - they come round so quickly compared to a normal tri-axle job

Is it their learning or your teaching capabilities which are in question?

Prob both i like flying solo and doing things my way right or wrong. I was tired when i posted this so having to try explain something that he couldnt understand me and then the messing around with the reverse was enough to tip me.
Im far from the best driver car bike truck any of em but just felt id hit a brick wall with it all last night, i got that he left his wife and kids in latvia and drives over an hr to our place to work

I was not out to offend anyone with the post it was meant as light hearted just get fed up teaching someone then a week later i hear they couldnt get into it so left

I spent years reversing tri-axle trailers and could get them almost anywhere with great precision. All that fell to pieces when I took a single axle trailer with no overhang out one day. Worst thing I’ve ever had to reverse.

My first Artic job was 30ft York flat with the wheels right at the back it was a bad trailer to pull due to the cut in. On a tight roundabout I made sure to keep in the middle of the lanes or you got Joe Bloggs in the Cortina getting into an ever narrowing gap I was told once I got the hang of that one any other trailer tandem or over length would be easy and it was true. But I used to feel sorry for the Mortons of Coventry drivers who were on the tractors they had 40ft singles with the axle near the back they would have to very careful with them. Eddie.

Ha ! we had all Mortons 40’ single axle trailers on a Unipart job delivering to garages in town centres :open_mouth: what a pain in the bum they were.

I was ‘baby sat’ (51 yrs old) for the 1st 2 weeks when I started last June. I had only done agency work alongside my full time job prior to this. I found I got on very well with all the lads who sat with me, showing me the ropes and explaining stuff. A lot of the things I was shown/had explained to me I use much of the time.

I learnt much more about lorry driving, the job, tramping etc etc on these 2 weeks than I ever did whilst training for my test in 2012…made a few mates as well!!

Some people can spell some struggle, some use a phone, he may even be dyslexic, and what are you a bully. Have some respect.

We all had to start somewhere but it would be much better if the company had a trainer who could do this. And if they can’t speak English very well how did they pass the interview.

If you want a laugh, come watch me reverse a single axle urban trailer, I can reverse a 3 axle trailer quite well, but the wee urban just rips the p155 out of me lol

This week I was in a puddle jumper (from an artic) Kept reversing like a berk. The more I thought about it the worse I got.

Totally agree - but as long as the experienced guys can simply say “No” without any negative consequences, I’d be happy. Then again, maybe we should be paid more while we are doing the training/mentoring role
