B&m assessment

Hi all

I have got an assessment drive this week for weekend work at b&m in Speke i passed my class 1 in may and havent driven one since
Just wondering if anyone one here has had an assessment with this company an knows what I will be required to do is it gonna just be a drive for an hour and reverse into a bay or something a bit more?

Thanks

John

Hi there,

I done an assessment nearly a year ago and it’s still the same!
-Have a quick talk,
-walk around checks,
-What you need to do as you’ve never been in this vehicle before.
couple to a trailer (not a double decker for assessment, just a normal 14ft 6 box trailer)
-Drive on the road they take you up to Widnes/Cronton using back roads then the ford road back to depot.
-Reverse between two tight trailers in the yard NOT A BAY AS ITS TOO EASY!!

As long as you don’t hit any curbs etc you’ll get the job as they are really desperate as the vast turn around of drivers is unbelievable !! Oh and the wagons are automatic!!!

I worked there for one day on the agency and spewed it after that there is no health and safety or respect for you (driver) in fact I went convoy to Blackpool with a polish driver in front we both had double deckers tight drop and as usual tail lift was breaking all the times, pallets fall off the back, the polish fella jumped onto the forks on the forklift and got lifted to the roof of the trailer!! That’s how we was shown by Paul Rowland (b&ms driving assessor!!!)

Honestly mate I know you need a start but don’t work for them they are really a ■■■■ company to work for, they have 12/62 plate Scania’s which looks great but all the trailers are Ex retail companies abandoned or failed MOT rejects that get minor repairs every day!

Money is crap also! Any more questions just ask me.

I had an assessment last week, as said above, walk around/daily checks with a bit of vehicle familiarisation. Ask questions and show your interested.
Reversed on to a tight bay then went for a drive. Came back and reversed in to a space between two lorries. I drove a Volvo FH with auto box, soooooo much easier than a manual, it allows you to just get on with not hitting kerbs and squashing cars on r’abouts!!!
Enjoy it and make the most of a free drive in an artic
I too passed in may and haven’t driven since, I too was worried but was actually nice to drive in a fairly relaxed setting. You’ll be fine just take it sloooow!

^ sorry mine was not with B&M (also did un/couple)

So how did it go?

Hi all

Well didn’t end up having my assessment at b&m as I was held up in my current job the day I was meant to go for the assessment drive(was gonna go after work) but breakdowns come at times you really don’t want it.

But hey ho i got in touch with agency and explained I would go the next week and they said they would sort it but at the same time they came back to me with dates I had a interview with a local builders merchants who were after a class 1 driver and the following day I had the phone call offer of a full time job driving class 1 with the builders merchants so I have politely said I am unable for the time being and have now got the all important job 10 minutes from my house finished my notice period today and start with my new job on thursday can’t wait!!! finally gonna get behind the wheel of an artic

Sorry it’s a gobble de goop reply to you all but my time driving class 2 bin wagons was good experience but let’s hope this new start is a bit better than driving up streets in Chester and jumping in and out emptying recycle boxes about 300 times a day

Well I am nervous and excited and I promise I will let you all know how my first day goes and hopefully get a picture uploaded of my new ride

Regards

John
