B+I Fleetwood 1980-1989

Is there anyone out there who used to pull in & out of the B+I depot in Fleetwood between 1980 -1989? There were a few hauliers like nortons transport, hothersalls, charter roadways, foleys,to name but a few. I worked there for nearly ten years as an equipment checker, checking all the trailers in & out and as they came off the ferry, then went on to get my licence and drove for a few of the subbies on my shift leave and helping out the shunters Albert,Russ,Dave & bob all great characters. If you did work out of there it would be good to here from you and have a chat about all the different characters and what there doing now.

I spent many a happy night shunting trailers from the ferry terminal to the B+I yard at Henderson Road by the fish dock. A couple more subbies, Wrights of Leyland, Nortons Transport from Thornton and all the owner drivers

I am sure I have seen some pictures of charter Roadways Dafs on here I think it is in scrapbook memories.

i used to work for HC Davis in corby 1982 to 1988 , i started on nights alternating between running flats to Garstang and trailers to B+I fleetwood , all loaded with steel tube out of Corby works. we’d go up to fleetwood loaded and return with either a stack of empty trailers or just a single empty. Bit of a punt to fleetwood from corby in an F7 , was a lot easier with the F10’s.
Always had to make sure we brought sheet and ropes back ready for the next load. I remember them being particularly generous with the rope, i had a car boot full of it , not just shanks but brand new coils.

Hi trucker.blackpool, I must know you then as i used to do the night shift and late shifts, do you remember the shunters albert, bob, russ & dave.
Regards Jim

I used to be the fitter at Charter roadways, (1980/82). Un till i managed to get on as a driver at Foleys, (cracking firm). Till 1987 when my first wife was taken terminally ill and i had to leave to look after her and the children. still driving but semi retired. Eric Jamieson
