B.H.S another one bites the dust

B.H.S is now in liquidation. Lets be fair… it was only a matter of time. They didn’t move with the times and evolve with customer demands. Its sad to see yet another major retailer go under. I have been in my local b.h.s a couple of times and it struck me as a shop used by the elderly. There was nothing that interested me throughout the entire shop

Sports direct are in talks to buy it apparently. I think the owner of sports direct has enough problems on his plate without taking on more. He has been called to parliament to explain staff and pay conditions recently and its on going so i doubt this deal will go ahead. I could be wrong but it sounds like he wants to buy ear marked sites and not the entire b.h.s empire. And too think… the bloke who brought b.h.s for £1 thought he was getting a right good bargain and could turn it around

Watching a news programme earlier and they said the average age of a BHS customer was 59 and that 55-70yrs old made up less than 4% of those that spent money in high street stores…this may of been why BHS struggled.

M&S must be the next one then

Don’t think the guys who bought BHS had any thoughts of turning it around. Private Eye pointed out when it happened that his track record was one of being bankrupt in any business he had so more likely out to see what cash he could strip out. Mind you would have had to work hard to match the previous owner Philip Green and his over £400 million “dividends” to his offshore domicilled wife in Monaco.Pension scheme gone from £3 million plus surplus to £571 million defecit which the taxpayer will be responsable for. The face of modern free market capitalism i’m afraid - not that i want full on socialism.

If BHS goes I’ll have to walk further when shopping in Banbury; cutting through their store saves a good two minutes. I’ll also have to find some public loos when needing a ■■■■.
