I saw a Canute’s lorry today that looked like a new Actros but a lot narrower - Replaced the Axor perhaps?
Recycled U-boats.
Gotta remember that one
GasGas:
Axor due for chop?
Yes it’s being chopped good riddance, I hate the things…
I would not be sad if every Axor on the planet self destructed and went to heaven, worst truck I have ever driven in fleet spec, not one good thing I could say about them.

Recycled U-boats.
I don’t think Turkey has any U-boats Harry That’s where they are made. We have a small, 10, fleet of new ones and they all came from there.
You know, I felt a little over dramatic saying that I couldn’t think of one positive thing to say about the Axor, then I realised, it does have one neat feature, it saves the last set cruise control speed into memory regardless of whether you turn the ignition off, pretty cool and not found that feature on any other truck so far
Well I happen to quite like them. The mk1 2543s with the manual 8 speed box were true pulling machines and nothing else in that power range would touch them. The current 440(?)s also pull well, certainly in comparison the DAFs and Iveco’s of similar power output anyway. The auto box in the current models is excellent from a driving point of view, fast snappy changes at the right revs.
The only things I don’t like about them are :
-
traction. The 4x2s are fine, but once that mid lift drops down on the 6x2s you can forget pulling away from a standing start on a damp incline, and you will also learn the hard way not to press the loud pedal when powering round bends on motorway slip roads, especially if you’re pulling an empty trailer or running bobtail
; you will quickly find yourself at 90 degrees (or more) to the road.
-
reverse gear on the manual 8 speed box needs both hands and a crow bar to push the stick over far enough to engage it. Also the “wedge” that you have to push the stick across between low and high box is very stiff and it has given me wrist pain after a while on some trucks.
-
that stupid net hanging down from the bunk just gets in the way, just like the folded part of the top bunk does as well when trying to lay on the bottom bunk.
I can’t believe people actually give these pieces of crap the time of day, cruise control isn’t that hard to set now is it, very rarely will I want to do the same speed I had set before turning the engine off…
Tbh the only reason I found that single thing nice is because I was driving them at Brake Bro’s Grantham, so you always come straight out onto the A1, when heavy and heading south you can hit cruise to pull you up Gonerby hill rather than having to keep the pedal mashed all the way up, they are also a 52mph company.
