Axor oil

On the multi function display in my Axor, the oil was reading 1.1 gallons then over a couple of weeks it slowly went down and now it reads oil OK.

What is all this about ? I cant find a dipstick any where ( except the couple in the yard  ) can anyone guide me. I have found where to top it up.

Fraid them German Bedfords don’t have dipsticks apart from the ones who drive em :stuck_out_tongue:

It sounds like there might have been too much oil in to start with, just let the diagnostics go through the full cycle before trying to start it tomorrow

Its not unknown for our recycled uboats to tell us they have too much oil in, then try agin without even moving or doing anything tell us there just fine. Then go out the yard and say hey red light driver stop stop oil. Check again and all fine. Give me a length of steel on a plastic handle anyday.

Tut tut!!

Axors are not my specialist subject, but it sounds like it was overfilled previously.

Axors do not have a dipstick.

I can tell you with 100% confidence that Actros has the ability to tell you if the oil level is both too low and too high, and also by how much.

I would think (and I stress the words would think) that Axor can do this also. The oil check screens are quite similar now.

On Actros, the trick is to look at what the screen is showing you (fancy that?! ). Look at the picture of the oil can. If there is a ‘wavey line’ representing the level, below the can, the oil is below maximum. If there is also a ‘wavey line’ above the oil can, the oil is above the maximum. The quantity shown indicates how many litres below or above the maximum mark the oil level is.

On Actros, when the dispaly reads ‘Oil Level O.K.’, the oil level is at maximum. The difference between maximum and minimum is 6 litres on Actros V6 engines. More on V8s. I don’t add oil unless my truck (a V6) shows me a ‘wavey line’ below the oil can and the text ‘5.0 l’ meaning, that it is 5 litres below maximum.

I am aware that this answer is not entirely what you were probably looking for, (especially as you don’t have the Actros, but an in-line 6 Axor!!) but I hope it might give you some idea of what to look for.

It’s the same on an Axor (at least it is on the 05 plate one I have at the moment).
When mine gets down to claiming it’s about 5 litres under I tend to put 3 or 4 litres in and that gets it back to saying it is about 3 litres under, even though the maths doesn’t work on that! Our fitter seems happy enough with it.

I wouldn’t put oil in an Axor - it’ll only make the bloody thing last longer

Another thing about the Hacksaw,is with the 8 speed gearbox, they are great for getting sideways in all gears, without a trailer on,much like a rally car.

Or so I’ve been told…

Ken.

It may well be that it’s how much oil it actually requires and it’s gone down because someone’s filled it up gradually . However, I’ve been driving this unreliable fully aoutomatic MAN TGA recently and wondered wtf I couldn’t get this one Merc out of gear this morning . It was ok once I’d put the clutch in :unamused:   .
