Dapper Scavenger,
Who are you working for on ADR work that pays those dire wages even in N.Ireland?
Fuel Services can’t get ADR drivers and they pay £7.80/hr + plenty of OT money,Monty Tank services and Lagan Bitumen where advertising recently for drivers too.Woodside Haulage are always looking for class1/2 drivers at average £300/take home Mon/Fri for 50hrs and 1st 5hrs time+half the rest double on a Sat and double time all day Sun.
I drive casual for both Monty and Woodsides and am working this Sat/Sun for Monty from 7am til 2pm and will get paid £180!!! (Its dam handy work too, usually a trunk down to Dublin port and then back with an empty or horse only )
Did you used to work via an agency for SRS or SHS transport in Carrick?
First driving job, no nights out, mon-fri hours ranged from 50 to about 65 take home £320 flat rate, if you do nights out (av.3 I am told but I aint interested!) its £380 take home flat rate
as a point of interest, I popped into an agency yesterday to compare wages - I was told until I have 2 years under my belt I am on top money, then it would be bottom of the range and they have work taking home £450+ a week or so they say…
£190 take home 40 hours norfolk what can i say great yarmouth i work from dont come here if u wanna get rich
opps forgot class 2
hubby says you lot are living it up try working for a local council driving a eight wheeler dust cart £6.00 per hour no fringe benifits well except one my bin is always empty lol
I helped a mate out last week, he pays £7-00 ph class 1 first 8 hrs then £10ph after that. Night out £16-50 but they dont pay 45 minute break, thats in Gateshead area, they cannot get drivers for love nor money
I wonder Why
Shifts were 15hrs Mon 16 hrs Tues & Wed and 8 Thurs 16 Fri and I’ve been told their stopping 2hrs 15 mins because of a discrepency, I’ve pointed out that if they do stop 2hrs 15 mins then they are another driver short
I’ll wait till they ring back in the morning to find out what the discrepency is, shows they dont compare tachos with paperwork.
To peter, i don’t know how you can manage basel/back and milan/back in a week. where are/where you based?
long round trip from brasil lololol
Class 2 tramping, £6.25 per hour for first 40 then £8.25. Paid on total tacho hours, around 60 a week. (No Saturdays)
Nights out £18.38, usually 2 or 3 a week. £60 a month for parking, even if I dont pay…
Pat Hasler:
My last job in the UK my take home was 450 per week, more with overtime but I was based in the south.
The most I earned on that job in one week was a staggering 1,578 quid 5 days doing a show in Germany. My weekly take home here for 5 days (mon - Fri) is $750. I don’t get overtime pay as it’s by the mile plus drop money.
take home £2500 a week, company car and access to the company yacht.
i`m based in a dream world near cloud 9
just one question, are you all including your night out/expenses money in with your take home pay?

Least you’re working, I’m the other side of Norwich, and got nothing to do except watch my overdraft head the wrong way…
Specky. Leave Dover Early monday morning. Tip and load Basel Tuesday afternoon. Back in Calais Wed evening. Switch trailers. Tip and load Milan Friday afternoon. Back in Dover Sunday evening. You’re very close to 56 hours, but if nowt goes wrong it’s totally legal. Then have 48 hours off, leave for Milan Wed morning, back Sunday. So in two working weeks you do one Swiss or Germany and two Italy’s. Which is around 1250 quid gross plous odds and sods like fuel bonus, which basically pays your grub for the week.
I’d be interested to know from owner-drivers how those figures compare with what they take home. The only way I believe you can earn more as an employed driver is if you do the sort of scheme that a well-known Geordie firm do where the drivers buy their own diesel which lets them claim a higher tax allowance. Or something like that.

Its all through the agency - driverhire. I only got my class-2 6 months ago and really needed to build up some experience, so agency was the way to go. Unfortunately, the pay is lousy. They have put me with a better paying company this month - British Bakeries. For 6 nights work, around 2-10am, I’ll get around £300
I’m banjaxed though. I’ll be looking for permanent employment soon.
Don’t recall working for SRS/SHS. I’ve done P&O, United Waste, DiverseyLever, O’Kanes, FusionProvida, Hasletts (mace), and these hovis guys, mainly.

that seems to me to be 7 days… Not legal at all !!!
IMHO… I find it hard to believe. Basel is a ten hour hit. then calais to milan in two days or less. wednesday evening to friday afternoon.

Take home pay = DIRE…THATS WHY THERE`S A DRIVER SHORTAGE…Who wants flogging and treating like **** , then get paid mopping money…![]()

ROLL ON MARCH 2005 THEN THEY WILL PAY…
they might pay, but it won’t be money
allikat:
Past three weeks I’ve been paid a total 80 quid…
Alli, if you work for an agency you need to find a better one, before getting taken on full time by Tesco in the eaarly 90’s I worked for them through an agency that would pay a minimum of 40 hours even when there was no work.
If you work for an Irish company doing Mcburney work Allikat, expect to be either at Bellshill ( not sure if its safeway, i cant remember) or tipping at Deeside then reloading out of NFT at Manchester. Then its all up and down the 6 all week. back on a fri evening will pay 450-500. If you weekend and get home for a day or so, expect at least 650 to 700.
Dont forget, big tanks mean cheap fuel from dundalk! Cheaper roadtax and insurance!
Big truck, if Woodies ever send you to Colorite Europe in Poleglass with a tanker ask for kev in the lab( yall need to anyway before you can discharge, as its now my humble job to sample and test the plasticiser)
Dapper, try Grafton, if my memory serves me right, they have quite a lot of varied class 2!!
Hope Ive been of service!
Regards
Kev
