Average speed cameras..........

Big Jase:
That reminds me, when there is a lane closure or 2 and traffic is going slow, why do truck drivers feel the need to tailgate the car in front, blasting on the horn as they pass us and waving their arms around like A. the driver will see as you are so close to his bum, B. that I can do anything and C. that I care.

This is shocking behaviour BJ and I would hope its a minority of truck drivers that behave in this fashion.

I mean most of us spend all day giving way when theres no need to and helping out our fellow motorists and also overlooking moments of madness with a wave an a smile for some idiot to undo all our hard work like this.

I think HATO workers / officials should have the power to report these incisdents and have the driver involved reprimanded, severley.

[edit: sure I have mentioned before the incident I had with a fellow damsel up my chuff when in my car, to cut a long story short he was up my arse in slow moving traffic so I calmly bought my vehicle to a halt got out and calmly walked along the pavement and put his trailer breaks on, strangely he didn’t get out the cab - but then I am quite an intimidating looking chap (so I’m told) even when wearing womens clothing at the weekends  ]

I get a bit fed up of reading posts like this :imp: what ever the speed limit is there will ALWAYS be someone that wants to go faster! Let them crack on and take the risk, personally I do the limit if safe to do so whatever I’m driving.
The law is the law whether you agree with it or not.
Not that it should matter anyway but I’m salaried - and not sorry if you’re stuck behind me being legal.
If I’m heavy and actually holding you up I will pull over when appropriate, obviously not facing uphill.

What some drivers know that you might not have known is that all speed cameras have a margin of error. Obviously the higher the speed limit - the higher the margin, meaning 50mile an hour speed limit gives you 10% + 2 mph margin. That said at 50mph you could theoretically go 57 mph without getting caught. At 40 mph you can only do 46. But at 30, only 35.
I only “push it” with 50mph, although my truck is limited to 52 anyway.

Hope that helps, but dont hold me responsible for any tickets, it might just be an urban legend, but seems to work in my case.

did a speed awareness course about a year ago [37 in a 30 ] and there was at least 2 people there caught at 33 in a 30. one of these was a pensioner kicking up a bit of a stink to anybody who would listen that she was sure she wasnt speeding but nobody listened to her

weeto:
I run at 55 on the A14 past Cambridge, and been passed by other trucks on there, and not heard of anyone getting done for speeding in that area.

A credit to the profession.

Quite. :unamused:

The same week I decided to take the Driving Awareness course, and paid the £80 asked for, and agreed on a date, I sent off my licence and D4 to renew my HGV entitlement to the DVLA.
This is now 6 weeks ago.
On double checking with the speed awareness people, I must have ID when I turn up for the course, and the ONLY ID they will accept is my photocard driving licence!
If I cannot produce it, I must forfeit the £80 I’ve paid for the course, AND then pay the fine and take three points!
I’ve just this minute phoned Swansea again to check progress on my licence, and was told it may take up to ten weeks to process!
I’ve had the course date delayed until 16th September and informed the DVLA what is hanging over my head and been told a note will be put with my docs but there’s no guarantee that it will speed up the return.
The speed awareness course must be taken within 5 months of the offence or you get the fine and the points.
I think I had better arrange another date, as late as possible within the time limit although it costs to change the appointment.

yeah you made the right choice,i got done in Bournemouth and faced 3 points on my licence last year, went on the course, quite interesting, got tea and biccies as well [that’s what I really went for lol] seriously though it was interesting and I passed the course and kept my licence clean

Don’t see why you can’t use your digicard as valid ID. It has the same info on it, and is issued by the same authority.

When I did my last 7 hours CPC, my licence was away having my class 1 added. Just handed my digi in and explained the situation. Not an eyelid was batted.

I woz robbed … I was on a speed awereness course only last week, I was 4 minutes late for the first one at Colchester and not allowed in and that cost £97.50. I then had to rebook for the course in Chelmsford which cost me £155.00 ffs. I left meself loads of time to get there so I never had to speed

Quite agree… gave up speeding years ago…So your late at a delivery, who’s fault is it… not mine…poor traffic planning that doesn’t take into account the changing traffic conditions, Do I look bothered…NO…If I get abuse from ppl… water off a ducks back…
As long as I can say I drove in a safe manner and abided by the legal speed limit, then thats fine by me, its my driving licence which Ive held for 22 years without points. and intend on keeping it another 22years with out them…

I rang up the Speed Awareness bird this morning and explained that the DVLA can’t promise anything about the return of my licence as proof of ID. So I says to this bird, “I have got a valid passport”. “OK” she says, “I’ll put a note in your documents that you will turn up with your passport”.
I says, “Are you sure because you did state quite categorically when I first rang that only a photo card driving licence would be acceptable”.
“Turn up with your passport and we’ll phone the DVLA”, she says.
t the bottom of the form I have it states: If you arrive late or fail to provide suitable ID, you will not be permitted to join the course..
What’s a passport then if it’s not a suitable ID FFS!!!
