'Average speed' cameras

chaversdad:
i’m not condoning speeding, but how many supermarket trolley drivers want to stick to 39.9mph on single carriageway then go straight to 56 when they hit the duel :unamused:
jt just annoys me that so called professional drivers really dont behave like one sometimes

sorry, rant over back to topic

Sorry, a bit off topic again but yes I agree. If these drivers wish to be law abiding, (as we all should), then by all means, hold up the wreckless ones on A roads but for gods sake, stick to the LEGAL 50mph on the dualled sections so we can get past you. Again, not condoning speeding, but aren’t your routes calculated for time and have 24 hour unloading? Most of us have times to keep or we have to wait overnight to get tipped.

Sorry. Ok, on the topic of the thread:

Does anyone remember the technology for SPECS being trialled on the M1■■

It was when they widened the Leicester Forest East section and they had the system set up on the two bridges. Just beyond the second bridge, (Northbound), was a big display that showed the reg number and the speed it was travelling at.

Great fun trying to see the look on someones face when they saw their details and speed flashed up.

I like this  - our local IAM group also had a talk by an expert on ANPR.
Within a second, all the details of a vehicle can be accessed. From it’s type, last MOT date, tax, insurance and speed.
Thats modern tech for ya :unamused:

Wonder if it can tell if you were lucky on the lottery last draw :unamused:

steve07:
so what happens with the cams on the a14 can they get us for exceeding our 50 mph limit down there or are they only set for cars?

they got the safecam on the a14 near ipswich all this month checking out all vehicles including the lower limits for vans/trucks.

Kiowan:
Where did you get this info from?

From the police. mind you TBH there are a few cameras around there so we may have been talking at cross purposes.

I do believe your right that they don’t measure speed as you pass but on time taken

i have never slowed down for them yet my truck does about 86k’s and i have not got a ticket

changing lanes doesnt matter if they are working you will get a ticket, a guy in my last place of work thought he new the score and change lanes several times and yes 3 points and £60 less he found out that they are real…

There was an admission by the makers of the cameras a while ago that depending on how they are set up, changing lanes does indeed avoid them tracking you, so it does work, but the problem is you can’t possibly know if it’ll work on a particular set of cameras without knowing how the cameras are setup so it’s not worth the risk. Just stick to the speed limit, so much easier, not like they put the SPECS ones where there’s not a need for them unlike GATSOs which are put where they think they’ll make the most money.

True - of the old ones but the new ones have ironed out that particular bug

We have SPECS cameras on the A74, once a month we get a breakdown from the camera partnership as to how many vehicles used the road and the average speeds. It breaks the figures down into 5mph segments so we know how effective the cameras are. Believe me,with 50mph set on cruise, there are quite a few people gone haring past us, thinking the cameras are duds and wonder why they got a speeding ticket through the post! :open_mouth:
