Like you say the wage may be a bit higher in that area, but don’t forget the cost of living is also higher too, so watch out for the false economy!
Lived South all my life and at £4 a pint down here I know it ain’t cheap lol
Up to a point the average doesn’t mean a lot, other than a pure statistic.
Pay varies to a massive degree, some of the lower pay end is at builders merchants and the like, and there’s no shame as such in the figures involved as the drivers i’ve met on that sort of work are usually very content in their work, have set shortish hours and go home every afternoon at a decent time and have a life outside the tin can cab.
There’s others are the other end, often on specialised work such as car transporters and/or well unionised companies where the terms and conditions are good (though often these people work very hard), invariably these jobs involve odd hours or muck or high skills etc etc, there are some jobs where it’s still dead mens shoes but for most of us mortals these jobs can be forgotten unless you are a relative or very close friend…in which case you wouldn’t be asking this as you would already have had the nod.
The variations in between the two extremes are countless, much depends on which part of the country you live in, what days and hours you work, what skill level or graft is involved and whether you have nights out etc.
Invariably, but not always, the better terms are with own account operators, such as some companies that still transport their own products and some supermarket type work where they distribute from RDC to shops.
Conversely, hire and reward doesn’t usually pay the best though high top lines can be gained by maximising hours and if you include night out pay as part of wages, which a ■■■■■■■■■ here insist on doing.
Another great post Juddian, as always…
And for the record, as I’m in the same area as the OP (Rincewind) I had a private chat with them to give them the general SP on wages in our area.
As I would with any serious poster on this forum…
The average is 9.50 ph class 2 to but you get to see plenty of leg
I got a job, as a newly qualified driver, class 2, paying a shade over 30,000 a year, 45 hours Monday to Friday and 1 in 4 Saturday’s. Not bad I thought. Im in Hampshire too!

The trolls ridicule, Happysack, because they don’t have the intelligence to do anything constructive.Shhhh í know this. But it seems to be the way. I thought I’d give them something to chew on.
And you two guys, don’t have the intelligence to do anything else, other than, driving a lorry.
Neither do you, if it’s true what you’ve posted that you’re a truck driver and have been for 11 years.
Average wage changes up and down the country depending where you live, prime locations like Basingstoke, London and further down south are paying around 24k up to 32k for class 2 work. Up north the same job can be paid anything in the range of 20k to 28k just got to look around and find the right company

Or more likely because a one bedroom studio flat in the South East costs £100000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000.21
More inside the M25.
And a 400 bedroom mansion costs £1 in the North and that includes the servants.
Very true, looking at 230k for a two bed

But yes, not a lot (if anything) in the way of 2 bed for under 200k down in the south. (or deep south as some may call it)
You have to show your passport to get to the Isle of Wight!
