As the title, the radio in my germans uboat is a merc CD65, now in the book and when you mess with the mode switch you can select a aux setting for using ipods etc. Now the book dont say how to connect one to it but I assumed it would be a simple jack pulg type wire from ipod/mp3 to radio so I pulled the radio out today for a closer inspection. Well theres naf all to connect to other than ten pins that obviously require some king of merc connection lead to fit one to the other.
Anyone had got mp3/ipods connected to there mobile radios?
I have a Sony with a din socket on the front, I just plug my iphone/laptop into that, works great.
you might find it worth while going to your local Mercedes dealer and see if they have a lead that goes into the multi socket and has different connections on that, I would guess that it will provide a din socket and steering wheel connections. It shouldn’t cost to much as it is only a lead
If it has not got a mini jack input on the front then you probably can fit an iPod, but it will require a special cable. My last car had a bog standard factory fitted stereo, but did have an output for the upgrade to a 5 disc CD changer which was an option when you bought it. I found a company that made a small box and a couple of cables that fooled the stereo to believe a CD changer was plugged in. An iPod lead came out under the dash and I could use the steering wheel controls to change tracks and volume and the iPod was also being powered up.
Unless the Merc manual states its some form iPod control I would have thought it was then made for a CD changer, as an option, so it might be possible to locate a company that makes a device like I had. If it is iPod compatible then there would be a cable that would end in a iPod lead, as it would also be powering the iPod. Google something like “Factory fitted car audio iPod cable” should bring up some options.
I paid £60ish as I remember for the box and cables, will be a bit cheaper if the unit is iPod compatible for just the cable. Failing that your stuck with replacing the unit for an iPod able unit or looking at an FM transmitter.
I bought one of these to use with my iphone and the merc radio cgi.ebay.co.uk/3-5mm-STEREO-JACK … 2eaa78dcd5
Most of radio that have function for Aux in menu, you will find the connection at the rear of radio unless is new type radio where most of companies will do the connection in front panel using 3.5mm jack or usb port

Was it one of these? connects2.co.uk/c2search.aspx?catID=27 I’ve been thinking about getting one myself - are they as easy to fit as they look? The instructions on their site leaves a lot to be desired

Yes those are the chaps and thats the type of thing I got. In my case it was a cable that connected to the CD changer output which connected to the connect2 box, from there was the iPod cable which you feed through any gaps you can find to where you would like the iPod to be, glovebox or dash. I can’t think if the box is powered, was a few years ago, but the iPod cable charges. I was able to skip through tracks using the car audio controls, that will depend on your car how much you can do from the cars controls. It worked well and caused me no bother.
If your head unit is good quality then I reckon is a good idea, but at 60 quidish then you can get units with a iPod cable bundled for not much more.
I seem to remember I had to ask a question about it all, I sent an email to them and they phoned me back in less than an hour to talk me through something, so it might be that the instructions are pants, it was better than an FM transmitter is nothing else.
Cheers, I’ll have a closer look at them then

I’ve got a ford , it’s got the odd sized radio slot, which I could cope with, but the amount of effort to get the remote working just isn’t worth it.
The Sony one I fitted in truck gas Bluetooth and aux socket on the front the newer version I got from halfords for my car was 100 quid for the ford you can get a spacer kit to fit a standard stereo the merc is harder as it nay have a 24 volt radio
