Autotransit

I didn’t know where to put this topic, so I made my own

This is a copy of a magazine that Bilspedition published for a lot of years. Trailer Express disappeared into Autotransit later, but still in 1975 it was seen both on trucks and together with the Autotransit logo. Some friends of mine hauled for them in the -60´s and -70´s here in Sweden, so it would be very interesting to know more about the English branch of it.

Nice shot that Mr Autotransit…

Usually a bit busier with traffic nowadays though…

I am sure there will be some stuff posted now there were quite a few hauliers from the Grimsby & Hull areas who did work for these companies if not directly then through another haulier.

He’s heading in the right direction, lucky to still have his wheels after venturing north of the river

The traffic is busier everywhere now, but I wonder if this photo is arranged. It must have been more traffic in 1975, or is the photo telling the truth? As all the magazines’ have professional photographers they get really good pics, and I did only take all too few during my active driving days :frowning:

Probably staged but who cares it looks great…

I’ve been back & to over that bridge more times just lately than ever before in my driving career & believe me theres more bicycles & buses than lorries & cars. I got caught there a few years back turning onto it from Millbank (?) before 7am & incurred a big fine

I hope you have some more good covers from those magazines for us to see.

Here´s the first Scania 140 I drove in my younger days. It was five years old on the photo when we rebuilt it for TIR traffic in 1977, before that it had been hauling within Sweden. Maybe it should have been in the Scania 140/141 thread, but on the other hand it´s a Bilspedition truck… and Bilspedition is allmost the same as Autotransit

On route to Sweden

This pic especially for LB76  A “proper” drawbar for you Bill…Tipping in Gotenborg

Thank you for sharing those pics with us truckerash. I´ve only seen the Swedish parts of Trailer Express when it existed, so it´s really fun to see the English part of that company. I only have a few pics from the company brochures that Bilspedition published, so I realy appreciate this.

Here are two photos from a brochure, and maybe someone recognize the Scania… and the place where the photo was taken?

I´m really sorry for that mistake truckerash, I should have read your name better! My mistake is corrected in the original text, and I hope that you can forgive me for my unconscious insult. :frowning:

Oh OK then, you are forgiven…just put some nice old Scania/Volvo pics on for us all to enjoy.

I remember them loading Pthalic Anhydride ¶ Flake out of Bulk Storage at Paull, during the 80s

I´m really glad that I still can be here on the forum, and of course it will appear both Volvo and Scania from Sweden

But first I have a question. Does anyone know anything about the transport on this photo taken in 1977; it has a load of a giant 21 ton muffler from Sheffield via Aberdeen for an oil platform in the North Sea. The information that I have says that it´s 550 kilometer journey, so it must have been a very difficult transport…

I’m old enough to remember Groupex they had the magazine job to Athens, I think his name was Ernie Frost who had a few lorries on for them when I first started going to Greece IIRC…

Never seen a picture of what looks like one of there own though, way before my time that picture, thanks for posting that.

By the way Stellan I think the bridge is the origional Severn Crossing from England to Wales, dunno who owned the Scania though but it looks lovely…
