Automatic gearbox a non starter in Jan

Well i see the DSA has gone and done it again!! Goal posts moved for the Auto gearbox January start date. As below:-

We hope to introduce the following changes, which were originally due to start in January, within the next couple of months.
We’ll let you know the date as soon as possible.
The changes will:

remove the need for 8-forward gear ratios for large test vehicles (category C)
allow people who take a lorry or bus test (category C and D) in an automatic vehicle to get a manual entitlement for those vehicles, if they already have a manual entitlement for cars, lorries or buses, with or without trailers (category B, B+E, C, C+E, C1, C1+E, D, D+E, D1+E)
I bet this has thrown a nice big spanner in the works :blush:

It’s not the most helpful decision they’ve made, but it is only a short delay to get the legal stuff done.

Perhaps it’s worth mentioning that the DSA never gave a specific date - only “January”. So we’re not past the original implementation date and, with luck, maybe it will happen in February. So it’s not a massive delay. (But I have to admit it’s annoying!)

We have our new auto truck coming in April so we can offer the choice. Will be interesting to see which route folk choose.

Its certainly bitten one trainer from our area this week who was less than happy :imp: prepped 2 guys in auto to be told the news on Monday :imp:
and of course the examiners claim that, as usual - they are the last to hear about it :unamused: .
