Had a MAN auto for 2 years until recently. Now got a scania manua (6 weeks old)l. Never want to go back to an auto again!

Twin splitter in an ERF everytime, better than any auto.Settled, I’ll get the boss to order a new ERF with an Eaton box
ahh, if only
i drive an 105xf auto and think it’s great in almost all situations. where it fails to impress is when things get tight! the clutch overloads very easily if you need to do a lot of manouvering or shunting. i’ve yet to take it onto a site that resembles the somme so i can’t really comment on how it copes in serious mud.
i’ve driven erf/man trucks with easyshift manual boxes and just find them awful! i’ve also driven a truck with a twin-splitter, but it was the yard shunter so i didn’t really get to use it to it’s full potential… and when the jaws failed and i dropped a fully loaded trailer on it’s knees, i didn’t use it again
I’m a huge fan of manual boxes and as an agency driver I always feel a bit disappointed when climbing into a cab and seeing an Auto, the iShift however is the exception.
Stunning bit of kit and won’t see you wrong at all. It won’t get you stuck any more than a manual would, so that needn’t be a concern.
If you’ve got the option of an iShift then go for it!
I’m sure these comments are helpful, I just haven’t worked out in which way yet.
As this will be (if it ever gets ordered ) a 10 year vehicle it’s fairly important to get it right, not much point asking for something that would be crap.
Of course they might be asking what I want, so they can order something different.
I presume its a new 8 legger your having? Or am I just being presumtious ?

I think there are still some HARRIS HINO knocked down kits CKD around. Here is your new lorry, you just have to put it together
I was chatting to the guy whos the driver trainer for Scania GB, about the new generation of auto boxes.
Specifically with Scania, it seems they have managed to incorporate a “rocking mode” into the auto boxes for the plant and tipper trucks. it seems the truck senses when the driver is stuck in soft ground and trying to rock the truck back/forth to free themselves, and allows the auto gearbox and engine to opperate as if you where slipping the clutch on a manual truck. As with the diff lock, this mode disengages & switches off automatically when the truck reaches a speed of around 15mph

Should be easy enough, I seem to spend plenty of time (re)assembling a Scania.

I think the FMX iShift can do this too.
The Eaton was the best in it’s day.
The I shift, I think is the best of the current auto’s, the Daf, M.A.N and Renault are quite close.
The Scania is quite good but the Merc is awfull even worse than the clicky clicky nonsense the used to fit to the alleged “Powerliner”.
