"Authorised users only" exit/entrances to Motorways

I was killing time and watching the world go by at Charnock Richard services northbound the other day.
I noticed the amount of traffic using the services authorised users only entrance/exit was a constant flow of all types of vehicles.

Should these entrances be made official for all users? Has anyone ever been prosecuted for using one without authorisation?

The ones at Heston are constantly used by everyone wanting to have a quick access to the M4 and a few others are also useful if you know where they are.

There was a pic in T&D once of a truck, a tipper I think, which was sneakily using one of these access roads when the chassis completely broke in two… well Boss…

Was’nt that O’ Leary’s transport and got into the guiness book of records for the heaviest load ever put on an 8 wheeler. :open_mouth:

LOL

I Google “Most overweight tipper”…

I got A fat American woman who gives good tips.

I can think of two service areas that have an unofficial access to two regular drops I used to go to; Chipmunk Crisps in Long Buckby accessed through Watford Gap Services and a small chemical works accessed through the back of Membury Services. Chipmunk later became Golden Wonder before it closed.

toddington services has one of those roads allowing access to either the north or south bound m1 instead of going to next junction! So i’ve heard anyway…

The Farthing Corner services on the M2 might as well be a junction with the amount of cars using that as an exit from the motorway :open_mouth:

It’s used as a back way into Rainham and Wigmore, I use it when I’m going to my workshop, there’s a
junction just off the slip road southbound and an access road northbound by the travel inn.

It was in the news a while back because poeple where getting parking fines because the anpr cameras were snapping people coming into the services in the evening and then when they went to work in the morning they were getting snapped again.

There’s an access road at the back of Clacket lane that goes to the A25, not recommended for anything more than a rigid as it’s a tight road

used to ba able to use the service access road at the old strencham N M5 & the other was taunton dene services , but these now have card reader barriers

Years ago I used to use the slip road at Leic. Forest to gain access to the A 47.

Very Good!

Shh, you aint seen me, right?

The one at Membury services actually services the Walker Freight warehouses just down the road, only easily accessible way to get to them

im getting to know all the secret exits at the services and the other exits from motorways on my new contract delivering crash barriers

some of theses works unit only exits come out in some interesting places and have saved me some time when stuck in queues

Hiya …i don,t know about nowadays, but the nothbound Knutsford slip was a constant route years ago,
traffic coming from macc through knutsford would go over the motorway turn left through the services
and onto the northbound carrigeway via the slip road.

Used to use charnock richard exit every sunday night/monday morning as my girlfriend lived just down the road from there, never had any bother,

well till they built houses where i parked mi truck, g/f reckoned they used to crack down every once in a while and leave the barriers down.

also we always start the trans pennine run going through the back of birch services.
