Austrian Maut

I understand from reading diaries on here that is a pre-pay system, much like pre-pay mobiles. If you run out of credit whilst your driving, does the owing money automatically get deducted the next time you top up? Also do you have to use pre-pay? or can your company have an account, whereby the money is automatically taken, so the need to keep on topping up isn’t there. Last question with regards both the German and Austrian maut, do German and Austrian trucks also have to pay it in their respective countries?

You don’t have to top the box up, it can also be used to log your movements then a bill is sent to your company. You select the option when you sign up and get the box.

That sounds better to me. Thanks for the answer.

Yes.

Neil, do you have a German Maut box or do you pay for a ticket in the services?
Also how much does the box cost, and at what point do you think it becomes a better option than the tickets?

Maut box is actually free, but you have to pay for the installation…Currently 300 Euro in Belgium.

Yes muckles, I have a Maut box. It was installed last December just before the Maut came into force and as Robbies Dad says the box is free, it remains the property of Toll Collect. The installation cost me €260 in Germany.

If you are going to Germany on a regular basis I would say get the box as it makes life easier and you can easily change your route if required, either by the office changing plans or because of traffic, without having to mess about re-booking the route. If you only go to Germany now and again i guess the other options, machines or internet, would be OK.

You can now get the box installed in the UK.

Thanks for your answers, I think the Maut box is a no go for us, we only did 3 or 4 trip to or through Germany this year and the chances of the route changing is almost nil.
However it does seem a pain getting the tax at the services, the machine either doesn’t take your method of payment, meaning you have to take tha ticket to the cashier or in a couple of cases doesn’t work at all.
I personally don’t have a real problem with it and just accept it as part of life’s rich tapastry, but my co-driver has real problems if something doesn’t go the way he thinks and I then have to listen to his moaning for the next 100kms. :unamused:

You are not the first to say this, especially as he has a liking for dance music, and I don’t mean Saturday Night Fever or the waltz  I’d expect it from a young lad but he’s older than me  Don’t know if I have time to get one, off to Spain tomorrow. :frowning:

if you have dkv or uta fuel cards then you can link your go-box to them instead of a company account, you can also link it to american express and diners club credit cards but not any other unless they are austrian credit cards.
there is a couple of other fuel cards that are accepted for payment too, visit the website for more info and you can plan your route using the website too so you know exactly how much the cost will be.
